The Reis are... human. To some extent. Centuries of war has ended with a (mostly) unified people, who strive to achieve uniformity at all costs. Thus, races and nations have so intermingled that there is really only one general 'race' of Reis. They take it a step further: genetic modification has erased pigmentation (all Reis are a chalky white color) and the differences in gender height and weight. Reis do not even have hair.
The Reis make extensive use of cybernetics, and no Reis has their original eyes, sensory organs or heart. From there, modifications range from impact-resistant skin to near-total modifications... such as what one has to undergo to become an Ashbringer.
Ashbringers exist to destroy enemy and battlefield alike, and use intense heat to achieve their goals. As the weapons Ashbringers use put out tremendous heat, the only biological parts remaining in an Ashbringer are their nervous, circulatory and respiratory systems, and even those are heavily shielded. The rest is cybernetic limbs built to withstand both weapons impact and their own flames, making Ashbringers one of the few specialized units that requires such a drastic operation. Not a single one of them is simply made into one; only the best soldiers are chosen or allowed to volunteer.
Ashbringers are usually equipped with a liquid-fuel flamethrower with incredible range, as well as a a heat 'blade' that can make very short work of most armors. Oftimes they also have shoulder-mounted racks loaded with fuel-air explosive 'vacuum grenades', meant to eliminate groups of enemies or destroy buildings quickly.

Scrap until I decide to clean it up, and a random idea for the D-Cross setting. Yes, mech-savvy types, the shoulders are stolen from Alt Eisen.
