Sheltered in a Divine Cradle,
Lost in an Endless Ocean.
Born from a Dream of Light,
Abandoned in a World of Darkness.
Touched by the Purity of a Blossom,
Engulfed in the Golden Essence of Life,
A God is born.
A fragile Spawn,
The Power to Create.
A Dreamer in a Dream,
Waiting for the Awakening.
...................~Duamutef
Drifting into the realm of being, the Egyptian God Duamutef, son of Horus, is born into life within the cradle of a Lotus.
~~~~A long overdue collaborative commission between myself and Bagheera for the excellent and supremely patient Duamutef
I rarely take commissions these days as my everyday work has me fairly backlogged and I still owe a few older pieces(eep), but sometimes a piece comes along that just begs you to answer the call. So was the case with this one. Even from conception, after hearing the idea, I immediately felt the ache to color the vision. Bagheera provided the beautiful sketch upon which we could realize this vision fully. I sometimes struggle with the sketch stage and just want to paint, so thankfully I was spared that and could just release myself into the embrace of color and light. Thank you Duamutef for the chance to paint this, it's not my usual style but I loved every minute of this painting. It took me where it wanted me to go instead of me guiding it..and that is a feeling I relish.
This is one piece I could tinker on forever and it finally took being shaken and verbally scolded(many times) into calling it done ;P.
You have the most incredible instincts. I live in awe of your work: you always use just the right amount of glow and contrast to direct the eye, and detail all the right areas. The delicate detailing on the edges of the leaves and petals, the balance of warm and cool colours, the texture: you could reach out and touch those leaves and know exactly how they would feel.
I thoroughly enjoy the hints of gold throughout, and the muscle and wing detail. The intricate work within the shell of his ear is gorgeous by itself. I'll have to go look at the detail shot once I'm finished taking in the full piece for another full ten minutes.
I think however long it took you, it shows in every single stroke that you thoroughly enjoyed painting it. That's a really beautiful thing to see.
For me it combines multiple songs, which describe the development of this divine birth.
Last Man and Xibalba give this feeling of eerie emptyness, the primeval ocean that covers everything before creation.
Holy Dread is what I find most descriptive for the beginning of creation. Out of the oceans depth the lotus veins begin to grow.
As they come closer to the surface they begin to create the light itself and therewith the essence of life. The growth gains momentum and then stops suddenly.
That's where Tree of Life begins. The golden essence of life begins concentrating in one spot, creating a lotus bud, which slowly opens and reveals the newborn god.
Music is a really extraordinary catalysat for visual art. Alector proved that to me many times, when she painted after being inspired by a song from FoxAmoore. Of course this works in the other direction, too. :3 I'm glad you had this wonderful music while painting. I didn't know of it before you told me.
This piece simply steals my breath and blows my mind. Everything about it is stunning - from the lines to the color. There is something so very alive and blessedly beautiful here.
Its more than the perfect compliments of color or light - the ways the hues interact or the way the light glows and picks out Dua's character with brilliant focus.
A wonderful way to end the year, and begin anew.
Dear Balaa, from the very first moment when you expressed your feelings towards that idea of mine and to Bagheera's wonderful work, my heart was trembling with excitement.
I'm glad that none of the unvoluntary interruptions were able to disencourage you from finishing this brilliant work.
Never before has an artist literally "absorbed" an idea of mine like you did, making it a common idea and ambition of us.
I really enjoyed the correspondences with you. You're truely a lyrical and literate person, who I gladly consider a friend.
Sometimes I wonder, how you're able to work on something like this without being swept off your chair by your own work.
When I look at it and hear the fountain soundtrack it's so emotionally moving, that only tears can express. Tears of awe and emotion.
A quite long time ago, when I was revealing my idea to you, I also expressed with which intentions I commission art.
Your work brought be a big step ahead on this pursuit. Now Duamutef's birth has been reintroduced to the world and the ancient lore
of the Egyptians has another new foundation.
You have my deepmost thanks and admiration for your breathtaking work. I feel honored, that I was allowed to work with you.
