Gaaaah... Being on a low calorie, mostly vegetable diet is very difficult, especially when one walks by a restaurant and can smell everything from French Fries, (Chips.) Hamburgers, Hot dogs, and doughnuts cooking. (I swear they must pipe that smell directly into the air just to make people hungry!)

Got it in one. Yes, some fast food places do encourage odours from the "kitchen" to be smelled in the serving area to enhance your "dining experience", ie: make you hungrier.
Dieting sucks. They call it eating sensibly or as nature intended, but that's all BS. Dieting is controlled starvation, nothing more.
