After working tech support, I can verify.
This is indeed how it works.
We're just mean people who don't want to actually fix the problem.
This may be sarcasm.

Are we talking Tech Support, customer service, or IT people?
I have similar experiences with Internal Tech and customer service, less so at this company for the internal people (not saying anything about the customer service people, though most of the ones we have now are pretty good), but I've personally never had any problems with actual tech support people.
I have had the problem where people want me to fix things that aren't wrong, or that are wrong with something that I can't fix (such as they don't have an internet connection, or what's giving them the problem isn't our software, but something going wrong in Windows itself.)

Well, both my old school and college had these tech support people who would come in and out to help, but they weren't technically employees. And, though they weren't outright rude, you could tell they were often like "Dumb kids don't know anything about computers." The actual IT people were nice. Like, the teachers. But the support people weren't.
