Star Captains (tm) Preview #8 - Ships: BB-1 Victory-Class Ba
BB-1 Victory-Class Battleship
Size: Large
Tech: Mid-Early
The Victory was the first dedicated battleship-class interplanetary vessel built by the Terrans. Originally only three were commissioned, one for each of the three major Sol colonies; the Terra for Earth, Aries for Mars, and Zeus for the Gallaleian colonies. However, as time went on eventually each pre-warp colonized world in every inhabited star-system had at least one Victory-class battleship defending it, and during the Reclamation the Victory saw heavy service on both sides of the conflict, having been retro-fitted with warp drives to bolster the fledgeling warp-capable battle fleets of the era. One of the Victory's most notable features is its ability to enter a "Siege Mode", where its armored rotating crew quarters (a layover feature from before artificial gravity) retract and lock down, along with the ship's secondary guns, offering extra protection against strike craft while engaging other fleet ships with its heavy forward weapon systems.
While archaic by modern standards, the Victory's relatively cheap price tag for a combat vessel of its size makes it appealing to independent mercenary companies and pirates alike. Despite its lack of shield emitter mounts and outdated hull design, the Victory is still a force to be reckoned with.

I really should do a write-up of Phoenix since my characters will be spending quite a while on her. She's armed in a similar manner to Battlestar Galactica with Gauss cannons, but at 560 meters in length, even with her fighters deployed, that ship would probably tear her to pieces in a straight up fight.
Thanks :3
The vessel from Sunshine is vaguely based off of some inter-planetary ship designs NASA has been tossing around for years. I always loved the design when I was a kid (had a poster with one on it and everything), and I'd pictured the more 'primitive' ships in the SC universe having that same 'round-shield with scaffolding sticking off, also spinney-bits' look to them. :>

There was also a TBS-style game I use to play as a kid called "Outpost" that had a similar style to their ships (incidentally, the game was also heavily influenced by NASA): http://www.sierragamers.com/aspx/bl.....x?msgid=658261
There's a couple more ships in the Mid-Early tech era with a similar layout. So far I think I've had some of the most fun designing ships in this style, heh.
