Charidotella purpurata

aka Golden Tortoise Beetle.

Never seen a beetle quite like this one. Seen photos before, but never come across them. Their transparent shell is kind of neat.

tortopise beetles are world-wide - can't recall if the bowl makes them flightless tho

Wow ... really wonder how that trait came about - what purpose it serves, -except maybe acting like a displacer beast effect ... screwing up predator depth perception, maybe?

It's a mystery.

Interestingly enough, I didn't notice it had the transparency until the preview came up on my first picture. It wasn't very noticeable at first until I saw it then.
