For those of you that skipped to the end to read the last chapter first, shame on you! :)
This is the second part of the posting; if that makes no sense to you, and the title doesn’t give it away, then let me recap a little for you numerically-challenged folks out there. :)
For those that know me well, you know that I’m a sucker for a good dare. It’s not just about the dare. It’s about a COMPELLING dare. Just a simple “I DARE you!” does not suffice. No indeed. It can’t just something silly or for a whim; I’m immune to those kinds. It has to be a dare of some gumption. It has to be a dare with flare and with challenge. It has to be a dare that, deep down, tests a bit of the mettle that you’re made of. Oh yes! THOSE are the kinda of dares that I have a weakness for.
So, essentially, Sir Kaine posed a dare recently, in one of his journal entries. I don’t know if he was joking or not, as he said that him seeing it was not really so important, so perhaps he was. Nonetheless, I took up his challenge, his DARE, and this is part one of my response. The Dare, for those that don’t know, was to draw a picture of a lion. As I am self-professed to be a horrible artist when it comes to the visual arts (drawing, painting, and such) then you can see why this is a challenge for me indeed.
In “part 1” I posted the pic that I used as the reference for this drawing. And “yes”, indeed, the scary part of this whole topic is that I actually made an attempt to draw something, but not really by choice. See that lion over there? That one with the fuzzy mane? He’s the cause of this! It’s all HIS fault!
Anyway, this is the result of quite the lengthy morning at work. It’s not anything spectacular, but before offering your unabridged critique, remember that I’m a mechanical drafter. Take away my t-square and triangle, and I get a bit inept. :)
Nonetheless, I hope you enjoy it.
And Sir Kaine: Here you are. I have met your dare. :)

Yay^^, You drew a lion for me:D And it looks great;) *Is proud of you* I knew you weren't bad at drawing, and here's the proof^^, *Prints out and hangs it up on the wall*
Drawing from ref is not as easy as people think it is. Sure, it make things a bit easier because you don't have to draw from your mind, but it's still not something to take lightly. Getting a picture to show some depth is freakin' HARD to do:p But you've done that here and it's not even hard to see^^,
I don't know what you think of this yourself, but it's far from bad. You have skills in /this/ area as well wether you want to admit it or not:p It just /shows/^^,
You should continue drawing now and then:) You're good at it and it would be cool if you did^^, But don't /EVER/ cut back on writing:( That would just make me sad:s You already know how much i love your writing^^, I only have /one/ fav author out there, and for some unknown reason(:p), that just /happens/ to be you^^,

(Shasta grins sheepishly) Well, I think I'll stick with my own passions. Writing will do. Music. And, of course, the animals.
If one spends too much time distributed between too many "hobbies" then you end up not being able to devote enough time to the ones that truly being you peace and contentment. :)

I know:S Which is why i specificly said you must NOT cut back on writing:) You're to good at that now to start cutting back:)
I haven't actually heard much of your music yet at all, but that'll change later on, so no worries^^, I'm sure you're really good at that from what i've heard of your skills in that area:)
And you know, i'm sort of relieved you won't continue drawing:p At least now i won't have to worry about the day when you surpass me and becomes SOO much better than me, making me look /really/ bad:s
Guess that'll never happen now^^,
Hehe^^, *Looks at the lion picture he printed out and laminated just for fun*:p I wonder where i should hang this thing^^,

Haha, oh please:p Maybe if you were someone else, but you're not:p This one goes up in my livingroom on my "art wall" that i'm making^^, Thats where i will have all the pictures that my friends have made, and all the gift arts i've gotten as well as things that i've made for ref to myself etc.
I look at it a lot, and concidering how it looks, so will everyone i have over for visits:p Your picture will look nice up there^^,

I think you captured the eyes very well. And the wiskers are cute. You managed to keep the perspective, which is always hard.
I didn't actually realise just how smooth lion manes were.
You're a mech drafter? All the ones at my work use AutoCAD. I didn't know that people still did it by hand any more. I'm studying mech engineering myself.

I haven't actually done the pencil/protractor/t-square drawing stuffs in quite a while, although I still have a little bit of the equipment for it. :)
I've done a little bit in AutoCAD, but most of that I do is in Visio, which I began using /before/ it became a Micro$oft product, which is really the only reason I still use it. It's an effective tool for me to be able to capture ideas with in a visual ways, that I can ultimately share with friends or colleagues.
But back to the lions...
It's strange how much the mane varies from lion to lion. Some lions do fairly well to care for their manes, and other's don't really seem to case, and it gets rather tattered, tangles, and dingy. The colors vary greatly from lion to lion as well, and from sub-species to sub-species. Some of the Asiatic lions have almost no mane at all.
