So over the summer when I was visiting my Aunt in Arizona we went to Mesa Verde and the Mesa Verde Well Unit. I went down into the well then then down to the irrigation canals. This little guy was running around on some rocks. There was also another little lizard I saw inside the well unit that had a bright blue belly sadly no pictures came out really good of him. Anyway I don't know what specie this little guy is and until I get my hands on a reptile and amphibian guide for the western US I won't be able to do much identification. I have one more picture I might post up here of this guy it's not really centered well but I might trim it down to make bookmarks or something like that from.

Well lets put it this way I knew the approximate family for the lizard. But I'm more old school and prefer to use ID Guides. I've ran into to many things like lizards and amphibians that have few if any really good photos of them on the sight. Not to mention subspecies. Subspecies are rarely represented by different photos or even separated out. Now that I know this is a Zebra-tailed Lizard and I found out that there are several sub specie of them I would like to know what one I saw. Sadly that is where the old Dead Tree Format ID guides come in handy. Also due to the recent name changes many herps over went a couple years ago there is currently no completely up to date book as many scientific names are wrong.
