Momma groaned softly as she gently rubbed her protruding stomach. Only 4 months along and she was already feeling the full effects of her new little bundle of joy. Sitting down she exhaled softly, letting her mind drift a little as she tried to relax… and the overwhelming urge to be taking care of a baby came back to her full force. She rubbed her temples a little and did her best to ignore it. Some ladies got angry when pregnant, some got teary, and she got overly motherly. After so many pregnancies she knew it for a fact. Unfortunately she’d babied Petie as much as he could probably take… for now anyway. So she’d have to find something else to take her mind off this until her adorable wittle baby teddy was feeling more up to it…
RIIIIIIING
The sound of the telephone woke her from her daze as she shook her head to clear it. Looking around she breathed a sigh of relief to find she sat in the chair with the telephone next to it since she wasn’t sure she could get up again right away. Scooping it up Momma held it to her ear “Hello? Oh! Hi there Andria!” she said smiling. It was one of her old college friends that she’d done her best to keep in contact with, though getting a call from her was rather unexpected.
“Why yes Petie’s doing okay… yep we’re still living in Viridian why are you asking? … uh huh I know you work in child services… okay… yes… oh my! Is the little girl okay? Well that’s good at least… but why are you telling me this? … uh huh… yes… well maybe… you want me to WHAT!? No, no I didn’t mean to shout it’s just I’m pregnant again and… yes, yes, I know, another one… anyway I don’t know if we have room and… well… I guess… okay, if she needs a loving home that badly… how can I say no?”
“So… when will she arrive?”
*************
“… well… my life sucks…”
Petie sighed as he lay on his racecar bed alone in his room staring up at the solrock and lunatone mobile dangling from his ceiling. He idly wondered why he kept it up there before remembering he couldn’t reach to remove it and he was too embarrassed to ask Momma to take it down. He rolled over and rested his heads on his hands as he stared at the plushies sitting on his bed with him as if hoping they’d be able to say something to make him feel better. The combee and lugia sat there silently just staring back at him as Petie sulked.
It wasn’t fair… Andrew had a girlfriend, Kaito had a girlfriend, heck even JULES had a girlfriend… sorta. The riolu, being his usual dense self, hadn’t figured out Lesleigh liked him. Yet here Petie was alone… he was happy for his friends of course, but when his only relationship ended as “Just Friends” it hit him hard. Sighing he sat up, hopped off his bed, and went over to the mirror hanging on the other side of his door. He looked himself over and groaned softly. Chubby cheeks, pudgy limbs and belly, adorable toddler like looks… and to add to it he was wearing a childish primary colored shirt and shorts which barely hid the diaper underneath. Groaning he put his forehead against the glass.
“Who am I kidding? What girl would want a boyfriend as messed up as me…”
Petie’s ears suddenly twitched as he thought he could hear a faint knocking sound. Sticking his head out the door he listened again. His sensitive ears could hear Jules and his mom playing with Chance, Rose rearranging furniture in her room again, James (he still wasn’t use to calling somebody dad) and Momma downstairs in her office talking... and he could also hear the faintest sound of knocking on the front door. Waddling down the hall and hopping down the stairs step by step he headed for the front door and listened one more time. Yep, there was definitely somebody on the other side… somebody really short since the knocking sounded like it was coming from about his height.
“Momma! Somebodies at the door!” he shouted since the house, doorknobs included, had been made with his eight foot tall mother in mind and short of dragging a chair in from the kitchen there was no way he was going to be able to open this door. “She’s already here!” he heard his mom exclaimed as she, with James’s help, hurried to the door. “Who’s here?” he asked but they didn’t stop to answer as Momma quickly opened the door and Petie shivered as a blast of cold air and snowflakes hit him. His thicker winter coat didn’t help any when he was wearing such thin clothes. Wiping some of the snow off his face he looked to see who was there…
And found himself looking eye to eye with a lone cubchoo girl who was only about a head taller than him. He blinked and looked her over as Momma gently welcomed her and invited her inside. She was… cute. Petie couldn’t think of a better word to describe her. Her pale blue and white fur as well as her long white hair barely stood out against the snow outside and she might have blended in perfectly if not for her deep blue sundress (which didn’t look like it’d keep her warm in the snow but since she was an ice type it probably didn’t matter). She had a rather slight figure with a modest chest (first thing Petie looked at, though he’d never admit to it), surprisingly broad hips, and equally surprisingly large paws. He wasn’t sure how to describe the look on her face as she slowly carried in a worn looking duffle bag… but “Timidly Hopeful” was the best he could come up with.
He blinked for a moment as a tall shiny ninetales lady stepped into view, her silvery fur helping her blend in with the snow as easily as the cubchoo girl did. Her white formal outfit just made it that much harder for Petie to see her. She gave Momma a somber smile and nodded “Good to see you Gwen.” Her voice was surprising warm for somebody who looked like they’d been carved out of a solid chunk on ice. Momma smiled back softly to her “Likewise Andria… so this is the little one?” she said softly, looking down at the cubchoo. Andria nodded and Momma stepped to the side softly “Please come in dear.”
Petie was utterly baffled as he watched Momma lead the girl over to the couch and help her up. He stood there rooted to the spot trying to figure out who she was as Momma shouted for everyone to come to the living room before going back to the door and the ninetales. He didn’t have any cubchoo or bearartic relatives he knew about… course with how his grandfather got around she could be a distant cousin really easily, but he KNEW he’d never seen the ninetales before… so he had no clue what was going on. He kept wondering as Rose, Jules, and Eva, who was carrying Chance, came down. Soon enough the whole family was gathered in the living room looking at the unfamiliar cubchoo… who just sat timidly looking at her folded hands. Momma was busy talking with Andria meaning the “Family” was more or less alone with the mysterious girl for the moment as she sat there by herself.
At least until Jules hopped up next to her, grinning and tail wagging, as he greeted her with his usual enthusiasm “Hi! I’m Jules!” he said eagerly but stopped as she flinched and trembled at his eager welcome “Are you okay? Did I do something wrong?” he asked, his ears and tail drooping. The girl shook her head as she looked down, still trembling slightly. “Ju-Ju?” Jules’s mom said gently to get her sons attention “I think you might be a little much for her at the moment, why don’t you come over here and sit next to me and Chance?” she offered patting the space next to her in the large chair she was sitting in. Pouting, tail still drooping Jules obeyed and climbed up next to his mom.
Rose chuckled a little and smiled to the ice type “Don’t mind Jules, he’s always eager to meet new people… what’s your name?” she asked gently. The girl just looked at her lap and didn’t say anything. “Um…” Rose scratched her head a little “… can I ask why you’re here?” there was only more silence from the cubchoo as Rose coughed lightly to try and fill up the awkward void. A few minutes passed and nobody said anything before Rose finally spoke up and asked the question most of them were wondering “… um… are you by any chance mute?” she asked, trying to sound as gentle as possible so she didn’t offend the girl. The ice type finally responded… by shaking her head.
At this point Petie was getting a little frustrated at this… but he was more curious about the girl than anything else. Finally Momma quietly said goodbye to the ninetales, shut the door, sat down next to the cubchoo, and gently placed a large paw on the her shoulder. The girl flinched slightly but looked up to Momma with that hopeful expression again. Smiling the ursaring looked at the gathered mon and cleared her throat “Everyone, I would like you to meet Anne Snowlocke. She’s going to be staying with us for a while.” She said which was followed by a curious silence as everyone took this in. Petie was the first to speak up and asked “Why Momma? Is she related or something?”
“Not exactly Petie…” Momma said starting to gently rub Anne’s back. The cubchoo just looked down more and trembled slightly. Momma looked at her for a moment before continuing on “She’s an orphan and a friend of mine asked me to take her in for a little while so she can have a more loving and stable environment then the foster service gave her…” she said gently, trying not to upset Anne. “Ooookay… I don’t know much about how orphans are handled… but this seems kinda weird.” Rose said, scratching her head a little “There any more to it?”
Momma sighed softly and leaned down to Anne “Is it okay if I tell them?” she said softly, as if talking to a spooked feral. Anne sniffled and nodded softly, still not looking up or saying anything. At this point Jules spoke up again “Um… Momma?” he asked, addressing Petie’s mom since he used Mom or Mommy when referring to his own “Is something wrong? She hasn’t said a word…” it was an innocent, if unintentionally probing, question but Eva gently shushed Jules for it all the same. “No Jules she’s not…” Momma said “You see she became an orphan under traumatic and… well… mysterious circumstances.”
Everybody exchanged glances and Petie winced a little as he heard Anne sniffle more. There was awkward silence for a few minutes more as Momma comforted Anne before Rose spoke up again “… please go on.” She said gently, trying not to upset the cubchoo but incredibly curious. “Well… her family lived a little ways outside of Mahogany Town and one night there was a fire… but when the fire department finally got there all they found was the burned house… and Anne.” The cubchoo started to cry softly at this and Momma gently cuddled her close as everyone took in this new info.
“W-what happened to her family? D-did they…?” Jules squeaked, looking a little pale as he imagined this. Momma shook her head “Nobody knows… they didn’t find any bodies or anything else there, just Anne all alone.” Momma flinched as Anne started to cry at the word “Alone”. Momma scooped the ice type up and gently cuddled Anne trying to calm her down. After a few minutes Anne’s crying was down to a soft sniffle, but Momma kept cuddling her just in case. Watching this Petie finally got the guts to speak up.
“Um… w-wouldn’t SHE know what happened?”
“Well… no…” Momma said, still gently cradling Anne “The trauma from whatever happened had several effects on her… she can’t remember what happened that night at all.” She paused to gently try to calm Anne down as she started to cry again. At that point Petie felt like a jerk for asking that question as he looked down at his feet. Rose nodded softly, having taken all this in “… which would explain why she was having trouble with foster care, I bet people were either trying to send her to psychics to figure out what happened and what was wrong with her or were too put off by her backstory and problem to want her.” Rose paused for a moment as she realized what she was saying about the crying cubchoo, she blushed and looked down ashamed just like Petie “I’m sorry…”
“Well… you are more or less right anyway…” Momma said softly, finally setting Anne down so the cubchoo was sitting on her lap now “But that’s mostly why she’s here, to try and stay in one place with a loving family for a decent amount of time. They’re hoping it’ll help her.” She wrapped her arms around the girl and looked to everyone “I’m sorry I didn’t tell any of you about this beforehand but I hope you’ll be able to help make Anne feel welcome here.” She smiled as everybody nodded and whole heartedly agreed “Thank you… now Petie?” he jumped a little and looked up quickly “Y-yes Momma?” he squeaked as she got up, cradling Anne in her arms again and taking the girl’s bag as well “Please come with me.” She said as she headed up the stairs.
Petie gulped and looked nervously at Jules and Rose before scurrying after Momma and climbing the stairs (quite literally considering how large they were) as fast as he could to keep up with the two. He finally reached the top and nearly ran right into Momma’s leg as he stumbled to a stop. She smiled playfully at him and continued walking, Petie toddling along after her dutifully. Though he paused in confusion when she went into HIS room… but quickly dashed in to find out what was going on. He found Momma kneeling down with Anne standing next to her as the cubchoo looked around nervously. At the point Petie was starting to get an idea of what was happening and his little heart sunk.
“Y-you’re giving her my room…?”
Momma blinked and chuckled, shaking her head a little as she motioned Petie to come over. The moment he nervously toddled over she swept him up in a loving hug “Not at all baby cub… but I was hoping you wouldn’t mind sharing it with her.” she said gently, teasing his head fur. Petie just looked at her in bewilderment, not quite sure what she meant. Share his room with her? Wouldn’t Rose be more suited for that? They’re both girls after all. Momma chuckled and with a little effort sat down, moving Petie so he was sitting on her knee and after a moment of coaxing her over sitting Anne down on her other knee “Petie, I have several reasons for wanting her to bunk with you… the first of which is that she hates being alone.”
Petie thought that over for a moment and then nodded. He could understand hating being alone after what had happened to her, but that still didn’t answer the question of why she was bunking with him. Momma nodded and continued “Secondly… I think Jules and Rose might be a little too… energetic for her.” Petie looked at Anne again. She was sitting there paws folded in her lap and looing down timidly. He could just imagine her trying to deal with Rose or Jules as roommates… and it wasn’t a pretty picture. “Okay…” he sighed in defeat “She can stay with me…”
“Actually there is one more reason… but I think it’d be best if she told you.” Momma said as Petie looked at her in confusion. Considering Anne hadn’t said a word yet he honestly didn’t think that’d happen. Momma suddenly pulled him into a close hug “I’m also putting you in charge of showing her around and helping her with anything she might need… do you think you can be Momma’s big cub and do that for me sweetie?” Petie blushed furiously at the patronizing baby talk… but the concept of being trusted with some responsibility stoked his ego too well for him to refuse as he nodded.
“That’s my Sweet Baby.” She cooed proudly, kissing his head before turning to Anne “If you need anything at all don’t be afraid to ask me or Petie here. Understand?” she asked gently as Anne nodded “Good. Remember we want you to feel welcome here, okay? Now I’m going to be downstairs fixing dinner if you need me. So why don’t you two get to know each other better? I’ll call you down when the foods ready.” And with that she set them down and with a little effort managed to get back up. Breathing a sigh of relief and rubbing her tummy she left the room leaving Petie and Anne alone.
“… so… um… Anne right?” Petie asked looking at her. She nodded slightly and he rubbed the back of his head “Well… welcome to my room I guess.” He looked around at the various toys scattered around “Sorry about the mess…” he mumbled as Anne just looked around before setting her bag on the foot of his bed and sat down next to it. Petie just watched her for a moment, taking in the awkward silence of the moment and shifting uncomfortably because of it. “Um… er… so…” he muttered, trying to figure out something to say to try and strike up a conversation with Anne. Sighing he looked away, who was he kidding? She hadn’t said a single word since she got here. Why would she bother speak up to him…
“Thank you.”
He blinked, not sure he’d actually just heard that. “Thank you very much.” Nope, he’d heard it. It was very soft but it was there like a soft wind-chime in a gentle breeze, quiet and musical but very distinctive. Petie had to admit it was a really pretty voice. He turned to look at Anne, who was blushing and looking at her feet again. It took his brain about a minute to fully take in and process this before he finally managed to respond “You’re welcome.” He went over and sat next to her, making Anne look at him curiously, before offering her a paw “I’m Petie… um… I guess mom already told you that.. .anyway it’s nice to meet you Anne.” He said, giving her his best smile, which came out adorably forced looking.
She timidly looked at his offered paw for a moment before she took it in her own, which Petie noticed totally dwarfed his, and shook it while giving him a shy smile “… likewise.” Well, this was progress at least Petie thought. “So… um… you wanna unpack or…” he said when something suddenly dawned on him. His eyes shot right to the corner where had a shelf full of his diapers and changing supplies sitting in plain view of Anne. His jaw dropped and his face flushed red as he realized she must have seen and probably thinks he must be a retard or something! She followed his gaze to the corner as Petie was all but hyperventilating in panic and embarrassment. He’d just met this girl and she was already going to think he was some kind of freak!!!
Anne looked at the corner for a minute… then put a comforting paw on Petie’s knee and shook her head. Petie paused mid panic and looked at her in confusion. She blushed and pulls her duffel bag into her lap and started searching through it while Petie stared. A few minutes later she pulled out something Petie, much to his humiliation, immediately recognized. It looked like a cloth pull up with a rubber outer layer made thicker than normal underwear. They were, for lack of a better term, bedwetter pants. He’d worn them when his problem first started before Momma talked him into wearing diapers since the pants hadn’t been enough. He stared at them for a few moments before looking at her.
“You wet the bed?”
She nodded.
“I’m guessing it’s cause of the stress from what happened to you?”
She nodded again.
“… so you don’t think I’m stupid or something cause of the diapers?”
She smiled a little and shook her head as she put the pants back in her bag. If Petie had to guess he was pretty sure this was the other reason for having Anne room with him that Momma mentioned. This oddly enough made him feel a lot more comfortable about having her here. The two sat in silence for a little bit, Anne too timid to speak and Petie racking his brain for a conversation subject and coming up with nothing. Finally he managed to pull together a weak “Um… wanted any help unpacking?” as Anne blushed for a moment before slowly nodding.
Petie was genuinely surprised with how little was actually in Anne’s duffle bag as he helped her unpack her clothes and find a place for them. Things abruptly stopped as he, only barely paying attention to what he was doing, pulled out two items that weren’t clothing. The first was a rolly polly looking charizard plushie with a fat belly and stumpy limbs with what looked like burn marks on it. The second was a picture in a cheap frame. He heard Anne take in an abrupt gasp of air as he pulled them out and looked between her and the things in confusion till he remember what Momma had said about her house and a fire. He quickly handed the plushie back to her… but couldn’t stop himself from sneaking a better look at the picture.
The picture was badly burned around the edges but he could still make out what it was showing and he felt like he’d been stabbed in the gut with an icicle. It was a happy family picture like the many that hung on the hallway wall with him, his sister, and his mom… but it was Anne’s family. She looked to be about twelve in it and had an innocent, pure happy smile on her face that made Petie feel all the worse for her. She was being gently held in the arms of a Persian who was probably her father (he had the same large paws she did) who looked ruggedly handsome and like somebody you’d see in an action movie. The other person in the picture was a beartic who was probably her mom since they had the same kind of hair. She was rounded and chubby in a pretty way and just seemed to ooze kindness and warmth even as an ice type.
He heard a soft whimper and looked up to find Anne looking at him sadly as she cuddled her charizard with one arm and held the other out for her picture. Blushing and feeling like a jerk Petie gently gave it to her and looked down, fidgeting on his feet “Sorry… um… do you want a place to put it?” he offered, trying to make up for that. She held it close then nodded slightly. Petie quickly looked around for some place that’d work and his eyes settled on his bedside table. Pushing the alarm clock he never used into the attached drawer he quickly had a space for it.
“How about here?” He asked, stepping back a little to let her put it down. She nodded softly and sat it down, taking a moment to adjust it to her liking. Petie stood there watching her and getting a good view of her backside… which he would never admit if anyone asked. First thing she noticed was that she had a cute tail. Her sun dress did a good job hiding it but he could also tell that along with her broad hips she had a cute bottom as well. He blushed furiously and considered kicking himself for thinking that as Anne finally finished setting the picture up. She turned to him and gave Petie a soft smile before timidly hugging him “Thank you.” She said as Petie’s face flushed red again and he barely could regain his composure enough to hug her back.
“Kids! Dinner time!!”
Petie had never been more grateful at how fast a cook his mother was as he coughed a little and smiled to Anne “L-lets go eat.” He managed to stutter before gently taking her paw and leading her downstairs. He could only pray dinner didn’t get that awkward.
************
Petie’s family was well known to be big eaters and the addition of James and Rose to the family had just added to the amount of appetite in the house with the only exceptions being Jules’s family. Because of this the huge dinner table had a spread on it that looked more appropriate to feed a family of twelve then the seven people it was made for. Momma’s famous meat loaf sat there still hot with a tangy tomato sauce to go with it. Around it was a steaming mountain of mashed potatoes, a platter of mixed veggies, a huge salad, and a basket of hot rolls. The two cubs were the last to arrive and the smell had them drooling before they got to the table.
With a little lift from Rose Petie settled into his booster seat next to Jules, since the table was Momma sized he’d never be able to reach otherwise. Momma kneeled down to Anne and quietly talked with her for a moment. When the cubchoo gave a soft nod Momma gently scooped her up and set in her in extra booster seat at the table. Once she settled in Momma sat down herself and smiled. The family bowed there head for a moment to say grace and Anne quickly followed suit… only to find grace was over before she could and everyone was quickly filling their plates.
Soon enough the only sounds were of chewing and eating as everyone chowed down. As usual Jules & his mom were finished first as Petie, James, Rose, and Momma went back for seconds… accompanied by Anne. The little ice type was packing it away with gusto as she smiled and ate large portions of the food, easily keeping up with Petie and the others. After a little while the eating slowed and the sound of chewing died down. Momma paused to smile at Anne “I’m glad you’re enjoying my cooking.” she said, not expecting an answer.
“It’s very good.”
The whole table, minus Petie who was reaching for another roll, went silent. This was the first time they’d heard Anne speak. “She can talk!” Jules cheered, getting a “shhhh” from his mom as she giggled softly and smiled. Rose giggled as well “And she has a pretty voice too.” She said as Anne blushed and sunk a little into her booster seat. Momma gave her a comforting pat on the shoulder “It’s nice to finally hear you Anne, and thank you for the compliment.” The ursaring said as the cubchoo timidly smiled back “Now then lets hope you like dessert just as much.” Momma added getting up and heading to the oven.
Anne sat there blushing more as Petie munched on the roll and smiled to her. Rose chuckled softly “Well… now that we’ve got you talking is there anything you want to talk about?” she said smiling kindly “You’re our guest here so feel free to ask anything.” Anne sat there fidgeting for a moment before sighing softly and stuttering “U-um… t-the PCA is here… right?” There was an momentary silence since nobody had expected that to be her first question. James was the first to respond as he gave his deep, friendly laugh and smiled to her “Why yes, yes it is. In fact Rose, Petie, & Jules all attend there. Though if it’s alright may I ask why you wanted to know?”
Anne’s face flushed red as she looked down as there was an awkward silence with everyone waiting to see if she’d answer… or if she’d go back to giving them the silent treatment. Finally she spoke up stuttering again “W-well… I a-always wanted to go there… before… um…” she hung her head a little and everyone got what she meant. Petie reached over and tried to give her a comforting shoulder pat but he couldn’t quite reach from his booster seat. She gave him a soft smile all the same. Rose cleared her throat to get Anne’s attention and gave her a big grin “Well then, I guess Petie will have to give you the tour then won’t he?”
“I will?”
“He w-will?”
“Of course!” Rose said, waving her hand in the air for emphasis “And me and Jules will be happy to help! Now brace yourselves… here comes dessert!” she cheered, grinning broadly as Momma came over to the table with a huge platter. As she set it on the table everyone got an eyeful of a mountain sized Baked Alaska. The desserts lightly browned exterior gave off a wonderful smell as Petie almost drooled on himself as he leaned forward in his booster seat. Jules meanwhile was giggling and bouncing excitedly in his seat and his mom couldn’t help but chuckle at how much he looked like Chance did when the newborn was offered a taste of chocolate. Everyone at the table looked like they couldn’t wait to dig into the desert…
Except for Anne who started to tear up and sniffle.
The reaction was immediate as Momma, the only one standing at the moment, immediately scooped Anne up and cradled her close to try and comfort the girl. Jules pouted a little as he’d jumped out of his booster seat and tried to climb up Anne’s to give her a hug the moment she’d started crying only to be beaten to the punch by Momma. The ursaring gently rocked the crying cubchoo, letting her maternal instincts take over here, as she gently tried to calm her down. When Anne’s tears subsided enough Momma gently asked “What’s wrong? Was it something I did?”
Anne sniffled a little and shook her head gently, using one large paw to wipe her eyes “No…” he voice was softer then before “It’s just… my mama use to make baked Alaska too…” she said, holding back more tears. Uncomfortable realization dawned over the room as this sunk in and Momma’s face fell as she gently brushed a lock of white hair out of Anne’s face “Oh dear… I’m so sorry…” Anne sniffled and shook her head “I-it’s okay… you didn’t know…” she said, trying to keep from crying more “You’ve all been so nice to me…”
There was an uncomfortable silence for a moment as every fidgeted, unsure what to say, before Rose spoke up “Anne… if it’s okay with you… maybe you could tell us a little more about your parents?” Anne blinked through her tears, caught off guard by the question “Well… um… what… what would you like to know?” Rose smiled softly “What would you like to tell us?” she asked as Momma gently slipped Anne back into her booster seat. The cubchoo blushed softly “Well… Daddy always collected pennies and he use to ask me to help him shine them… and Momma use to take them and use them for her crafts projects…” Anne smiled slightly as she went on about her parents, everyone listening to her intently as Momma cut the baked Alaska and served it.
Rose had to keep herself from giggling as she listened to Anne talk. She knew there were times people just needed to cry… but she also knew that this hadn’t been one of those times.
*******************
“Ooph…” Petie rubbed his bloated tummy as he sat on his racecar bed “Hope Momma’s dessert was okay…” he said, looking at Anne who was currently exploring the room they now shared. The girl nodded softly before pausing to look through Petie’s large C.D. collection. Dinner had been finished up a little while ago and the two were currently relaxing… okay to be fair Momma had asked him to clean up his room a little since Anne would be staying there now but he was resting off his full tummy for the moment.
“Petie?” He blinked and looked up to find Anne standing next to him “Is it okay if I look in your closet?” she asked softly making him tilt his head “Okay… but why?” Anne blushed and looked down “Momma said you might have some spare clothes that could fit me… I don’t have very many and…” Petie blinked and remembered Momma stopping Anne to whisper something to her he couldn’t make out. That must have been what she said “Oh, okay. Sure. Go ahead.”
Anne smiled and nodded softly “Thank you.” Before she vanished into Petie’s surprisingly large closet. Petie chuckled and then groaned as he got up off his bed, full tummy protesting the movement. Hard to believe that just a few hours ago Anne was hardly saying a word. He sighed and started to pick up the various toys and other junk littering his floor. He didn’t want to but Momma HAD asked him to and with how she’d been acting as of late she’d probably make him take a time out if he hadn’t at least made a dent on it by bedtime.
“Petie?”
“Yeah?”
“Are these yours?”
He blinked and looked up to where Anne was standing in the closet door… holding two elegant little girls dresses on hangers. One was a candy pink princess gown and the other was a sea foam green party dress and they were both made for girls probably ages five and under. Petie groaned as he realized some of Jules’s dresses had ended up in his closet AGAIN at the WORST time. Not even able to look her in the eyes he just shook his head “No… those are Jules’s, they just keep ending up in my closet for some stupid reason…” he groaned, not wanting to mention Rose had made him wear them for extra motivation while training.
“Oh, okay then.” Anne said, not prying anymore into it as she vanished back into the closet and Petie collapsed on his bottom. He sighed, still blushing furiously as he thought about what Anne must think about him after that little mix up and let out a soft whine… till he noticed the soft chuckling coming from the doorway. He looked up to find Rose standing there and promptly flushed a deeper red. “Having trouble there baby bro?” she asked teasingly, smiling sweetly.
“Nuuuuuuu…” Petie whined softly, looking away from her in embarrassment. Rose just chuckled and kneeled down before gently ruffling his hair “Well I just thought I’d check up on how you two were doing…” just then a call came from the closet “Petie? Would it be okay if I tried something on?” getting to his feet Petie called back “Sure!” Rose had to keep from giggling as she smiled “I’ll take that as good then.” She said, watching Petie waddling around as he reluctantly picked up his toys “Any clue what outfit she found?” Petie just shook his head “Nope, but she can have whatever she likes. Doubt anything would fit her anyway…”
“How do I look?”
They both turned to find Anne standing there in an outfit Petie had tried his hardest to forget about. It was the old Pre-K uniform from the Kimmie era, a childish blue jumper outfit with pink trim and a red (in this case short sleeved) undershirt that they’d tried their hardest to forget about. Petie’s version of the outfit had been made with extra space for his diapers and in this case it helped to accommodate Anne’s massive hips… but even then it was pulled tightly over the cubchoo’s form and looked amazing on her. Unfortunately just seeing the costume was enough to give Petie nasty flashbacks which mixed with how it looked on Anne made him pass right out. Rose, who never really met Kimmie before and didn’t know too much about her, caught him before he face planted and smiled to Anne “You look great!”
Anne blushed and smiled at that, shifting on her feet shyly “I also found something else… um… i-is Petie alright?” she paused to ask, looking at him with concern. Rose chuckled and tickled Petie’s nose a little making him whine and squirm before coming around “Wha happened? He asked confused as Rose laughed “He’s fine… so what did you find? Something else for you?” Anne blushed and shook her head “A-actually… s-something for Petie…” she said, blushing more and looking at her feet. “Oh?” Rose raised an eyebrow at that, her big sister sense tingling. Anne nodded and went back into the closet as Petie silently groaned about having to play dress up again.
A few minutes later Anne returned with a baby blue garment that was immediately familiar to Petie “I don’t know what the Pre-K means… but this looks cute.” She said smiling, with a hint of blush on her cheeks, as she holds it up. The blue footed jammies with the red shoulder marks and white tummy unfolded to show the big “Pre K” on its chest. Petie winced as he remember this was the result of him unsuccessfully petitioning Shellshock for a cooler uniform. Rose could keep from giggling as she nodded “He’d look adorable in that… and it’d be perfect for him to sleep in since it’s just about bedtime.”
Anne nodded softly “Okay… um… should I change in another room or” she started to say but Rose cut her off by scooping Petie up and snagging the sleeper from her “Oh no, no. You can change in here. Me and Petie will give you your privacy… besides he has to get ready for bed too.” She smiled and headed for the door “Just call when your finished changing!” she said before stepping into the hall with a stunned Petie and shutting the door behind her. “What was that about!?” Petie protested as Rose carried him across the hall to the bathroom .She just smiled teasingly to him “Girls need their privacy you know… so think you can handle having a roommate baby bro?”
Petie blushed as Rose lay him on the bathroom counter and started to change him into his thicker bedtime diaper “I can do it myself!! … and I think I can handle it just fine, she won’t hog the bed like a certain big sister I know.” Rose laughed at that and tickled his tummy “Well last time I let you handle it you ended up ripping the tapes clean off the diaper in frustration… and should I take that to mean you’ll be sharing the bed with her? Going for some snuggles huh? You little flirt!” she teased as she went about changing him. Petie blushed bright red and folded his arms “I-I-I’ll have you know I g-got my sleeping bag out s-so she can have the bed alone!” he protested as Rose taped the diaper up. She honestly looked disappointed “Oh… well okay then, if my baby bro wants to be a little gentlemon.” She added, chuckling as she slipped Petie into the sleeper before he could protest.
He blushed a bright pink at that as she stepped into the hall and set him back down “S-shoo! Get! I’ve had enough weirdness today without you adding to it!” he whined, trying to push the much larger khan towards her room. Rose just laughed and scooped him up for a quick kiss on the forehead “Okay then baby bro, sleep well!” she chime in a sing-song voice before setting him down and going to her room, leaving a blushing Petie standing there outside his door pouting. He stood there a few minutes more, not knowing what to do, before it opened a little and Anne’s voice came through “O-okay, I’m ready.”
“I’m coming in then.” Petie called, waddling into his room to find the lights turned out (but thanks to the nightlight and bed lamp seeing was relatively easy) and Anne working with his bedside lamp… in an outfit he didn’t expect. It was a thin and sheer sleeveless nightgown in a pale pink color. He could faintly see the outline of her body through it, more so thanks to the lamp as she tried to adjust it. Petie’s face flushed red as his jaw dropped. Anne blushed and looked down at her feet “I-I’m s-sorry… t-this i-is all I had… I w-wasn’t e-expecting a b-boy r-roommate…” she stuttered out. Petie quickly looked up at the ceiling, still blushing “I-it’s okay…” he stuttered as well, clumsily waddling over to where his sleeping bag was in the corner “Um… I g-guess this is n-night t-then…”
“Um… Petie?” he looked up from unrolling his sleeping bag to find Anne sitting on the bed looking at him pleadingly “I don’t like sleeping alone…” she said softly, blushing more. Petie stood there stunned for a moment, not sure he heard that right, before respond “S-so… y-you want me t-to…” he babbled, brain threatening to snap as it trying to work through this concept. Anne just nodded timidly and blushed as she looked at him hopefully. Brain working on auto pilot Petie waddled over and slowly sat down next to her, half hoping half expecting her to say it was a joke any moment.
Instead Anne hugged him “Thank you… oh…” she sniffed a little “You smell like baby powder…” she said, making Petie blush and try to fumble for one of his usual excuses out of reflex… until Anne smiled “It smells nice.” Petie blushed so hard at that comment he couldn’t notice the soft blush on Anne’s face as well. Pushing back the covers of the bed Anne slipped under them and Petie reluctantly followed, trying to keep a good distance between them even on the relatively small bed. Petie reluctantly reached out and switched off the bedside lamp, leaving the nightlight as the only illumination room as he tried to settle into his bed without thinking about the girl he was sharing it with.
No such luck as he felt two large paws gently tug him towards the center of the bed as Anne wrapped her arms around him, cuddling him like a plushie. He went ridged as a board and his red face almost glowed in the darkness as he felt Anne snuggle up against him and yawn softly. “Your furs really soft…” she said as she nuzzled against him gently “Night night Petie… and thank you.” and with that she dozed off on the spot leaving the teddiursa gently snuggled in her arms and drowning in a sea of awkwardness. All Petie’s panicked mind could think about at this time was praying for once he wouldn’t wet his bed… at least till Anne nuzzled against him in her sleep and he realized just how cold her nose was. He bit his lip to keep from crying out and waking her up. This was gonna be a looooooong night.

PCA – Bear with It
Part 1
