''While the Creed of Inner Turmoil, the cult worshiping the Parasite Lord, is commonly accepted, they are far from being actually liked.
It may just be the usual demeanor of their members - the fact that they prefer to dwell in dark, damp places; places that smell of mould and viscera. Maybe it's their tendency to shed lice infested skin and hair on your doorstep after they are done promoting all the advantages of fulfilling their god's will. Or perhaps their disposition to treat botflies with the same care most people dedicate to, say, bunnies.
Whatever the case, it's not like they aren't trying. When not advertising their own beliefs, most of them are timid, reclusive individuals, tolerant of other cults and religions (and those that aren't are shunned even by their own fellows). Occasionally, they can be a bit invasive, but they know how to take no for an answer, and honestly care for public welfare. They even hold a kitchen for the poor, although the general opinion is that eating stray cats is a considerably smaller health hazard.
Curiously, the Parasite Lord is an actual entity. It was probably created from collective fanatical belief; or it may be some older being that likes the attention. It is, however, benevolent, and although it could never be said how much it really cares for its followers, it does seem to bestow some kind of protection upon them (from all the various diseases, if nothing else).''
I hate hate hate this picture. It's just one of those things that seemed ok in the start, started going bad after it was halfway finished and it was too late to turn back, and came out horrid in the end. I probably wouldn't even be posting it, if it weren't for the fact that it's pretty much the only thing I've drawn the last month.

Been there, but viewing it with eyes that weren't continually abused over the course of its production definitely provides a different—and much less negative—perspective. You illustrated the story so well I could infer most of it before reading your description, and that, in my opinion, is a real achievement.
I find the picture to be a little too "black" for me. There's just no appreciable difference between the structure at the top and the bodies at the bottom, screwing up the perspective for me. But that aside, I really like the design, and the description is really interesting. Any lapse in quality of the art is covered by the quality of the writing.
Yeeeeah, probably not a cult I'd look at joining, having something of a morbid fear of parasites.
It might not meet your high standards, but it still looks okay to my eyes. One criticism might be that the crowd should perhaps be a little less defined and more just an amorphous, mist-shrouded mass of indistinct but still vaguely humanoid figures?

But they just want to use your moist, warm meatshell as their home
Do you know how many tiny hobos you create just by being careful what you eat and washing your hands?
On a serious note, I think you're right - the back(fore?) ground should have been less distinct; but like always, I've had completely wrong priorities about what should grab attention and got carried away until it was too late.

It's a pretty good picture. Could be not exactly what you have envisioned, but still good nonetheless.
Though I can relate to this kind of creative blocks.
It's totally ok for any artist not to like work one makes, or make mistakes, or follow up ideas to seemingly dead ends. Truth is, most of what ANY artist makes is shit. Even stuff that takes lots of time and effort can end up that way. But there has to be tons crap for a few diamonds to shine through here and there. Looking at the less successful stuff, going "oh my!" and stuffing a cork up the creativity hole isn't very productive - you could mention that to the internal critic in your head that's gotten too much of your attention lately and went totally off the hook... That annoying little voice is the legitimate target for your angler, not you yourself.

Well, it's definitely not enough to make me stop drawing, and I am actually a bit glad that I'm never really satisfied with my work. It ensures that I will never decide ''I'm good enough'' and stop working towards improvement. On the other hand, it is frustrating when it seems I've wasted several hours on something I'm ultimately unsatisfied with, but I've came to terms with that. Must be a few bumps on the road.
