History...
In a dark and distant future when life is cheap (in fact its on sale) Perl Spooler was born in Moreau Laboratories as a pleasure 'fab' anthro (fabricated anthropomorphic) for people with very specific tastes, her base species being a rat. Her system is built for heights of emotional passion and her body was created to be athletic and limber. But after a group of anti-corp terrorists busted into the lab and set her and several others free she decided not to pursue her original purpose, and instead turn her attention to computers...specifically VR hacking. Because of her hyperactive hormone and indulgent nature combined with the sedentary lifestyle of an underground deck operator she lost one figure to gain another, a fact she's never regretted.
Locally she's known as Hack Rat, although the corps consider her a rampant nuisance after a successful career of exposing the darkest secrets of even the most secure companies, sometimes for money but other times for the pleasure of decking. In real life she's a party gal, a spirited dancer and devoted mall rat (a term she's proud of). But at other times she's her trim and agile avatar Proxy, capable through her deft maneuvers to literally dive under fire walls or battle off destructive I.C.E programs.
She's still on the run from her original creators who would like nothing more then to modify her mind back into the blindly obedient pleasure slave she was meant to be.
She also receives a lot of flack for her size, especially compared to her original idealized build, but Perl would be the first to say she's happier being free...and will promptly kick the ass of anyone who argues otherwise, especially in an online game or skill challenge.
To Perl decking is just another form of dancing.
