I think I can blame my design classes for that. I sketch the poses and then scan my sketches into a computer and use an art program to move the bodies around until they look right. Then I use that to do my final sketches. Before that, I'd draw the pose and then use a light box to see where the best placement could be. That certainly helps a lot!
