behold the first 5-man regiment of my chaos warband: the whips of slaanesh.
you'll notice i did actually place Lefty on the leftmost position of the formation. similarly, the rightmost guy is named Righty
before you ask: yes, 5 men is an abnormal size for a regular game of warhammer, however, these guys are for warband games, where 5-man foot regiments are fairly common.
they aren't 100% done, but they're now playable. all that's left is to paint and flock the bases.
once i got all my regiments done, i'll take a groupshot.

yup, the color splashed onto these guys is from my hand alone.
as for getting into it, i have one suggestion: if you're not sure about your skills, buy a couple cheap figures with lots of flat/easy to paint surfaces first anf do a couple test runs on them. if it works out, but you end up not wanting to play, someone will always accept pre-painted minis.
also, ask any gamers around the wargaming area if they know any good beginner's tips for painting.

about 10 bucks for a small blister of maybe one or two figures (which is usually a metal command group) or 35-40 bucks for a plastic regiment set which can contain anywhere from 8 to 15 full miniatures(usually with plenty bits leftover) depending on the particular unit type. a box of either bretonnian archers or men at arms will contain 15 guys each, for instance.
i'm not sure about the warhammer 40,000 boxes, tho, as i've not gotten that many.

Ahh, cool little guys. ^.^
I used to play 40K imperial before it became cool and all of a sudden the only people who played were little kids. >.<
The game is too expensive for me now though. So many other miniature sets out there are so much less expensive. The markup on warhammer stuff is rediculous.
Still, I'm curious what Warband is. Is it a new Warhammer Fantasy based game?

warbands was a set of rules released in 3 issues of white dwarf. basically it's warhammer fantasy on a really small scale. it usually dosen't take very long, so often you hear people call it "Lunch hammer"
el-cheapo armies like goblins tend to rule with an iron fist in warbands games, due to the fact that few other armies can spend so little to get so many guys in a single unit.
