The grainy picture doesn't do this justice... but sufficed to say this evening I was able to acquire a new bow! :D I'd been debating over whether or not to get a new one (in addition to my current recurve) when I saw an ad in an online classifieds that featured this beaut. Someone who had it custom made about 10 years ago and decided to part with it as he has another 6-7 and is getting a new one this year LOL.
It's the first longbow I've ever possessed and it's beautiful. 66" long, 55lbs weight on a 28" draw and pure grace - nothing artificial on it except the varnish :) Heck, even the arrow-rest is animal hide of some sort.
As wonderful as it is, the current draw weight is actually a little beyond my strength to easily pull it. Oh well, that's motivation to build it up if nothing else.
I'll replace the image if I ever get a better one, but this is a treasure of a find without question.

Thank you. I, too, thought my options were always going to be limited... Hence why I jumped at the chance to own this.
Back when I bought my first bow (seen in the other photos on my profile), the store I went to had a very nice blackwood longbow. It was tempting, but at the same time I had the wisdom to turn away from it. I was just re-learning what it was like to use a bow after not having used one since I was 16. I didn't want to buy it just because it was cool-looking when I knew what I really needed was just something practical to train my body again.
Guess my patience paid off. :)

It's good that you have that option at least. Within Ottawa, there's exactly 1 store that sells archery equipment and even then they are more a fishing store than anything. I don't even bother going there since it isn't worth the time. The first bow that I purchased I actually picked up from a store that's about 2 hours away.
0You'd think with all this Canadian wilderness nearby, there'd be more stores selling archery supplies - guess too many people have been spoiled by guns.
