A long time ago, I created a character as a receptacle for all my negative feelings. That turned out to be Set, my evil Mary Sue.
Lately, it occurred to me that I needed a counterpart for him, just in case. And that turned out to be the Mafdet.
Set - as you probably know - is an ancient Egyptian god, specifically the god of the desert and sandstorms. Originally a supreme deity, he was first delegated to defender of Ra, and later as a sort of god of evil. He is one of the oldest deities of Egypt and by default of the world.
Mafdet, too, is an ancient goddess - older than Bastet and Sekhmet, for instance. She was the goddess of swift justice and vengeance and destroyer of serpents.
In other words, a perfect foil for Set, who may look like a cheetah, but is a venomous snake on the inside (You can see it peering out through his eyes).
I think she's more a sort of psychic armor, weapon or persona than an actual person, There might be an otherwise familiar face underneath that mask.
