I gotta get out of this art block I'm in. I saw
hexaod 's new ref sheet and I thought I'd give it a shot.

I actually tried some new things with SAI this time. I couldn't believe how close it can come to actually sketching out with pencil and inking over. I did all my rough sketching with a low density pen tool, which acted sorta like a mechanical pencil, which is what I used to sketch with back in high school, cleaned up with an eraser that also had the density turned down, so it's more like a traditional eraser and wasn't just "that line never existed" so it looked rough, so I could be a little less precise with everything and still get what I wanted. It was only to be a rough anyway, the line work is what's important that I get precise. So, I started a new layer above the sketch layer for inking, which I used 100% density ink (I use size 3 because I draw everything at a higher resolution then shrink it down when it's finished) and eraser (size 3 or 7). Even while inking, I saw some parts that didn't really look right, I narrowed the tail and I went over and tried to make the hands and feet look better. It may not look like I spent much time with the hands, but hands are still something I just can't draw. Coloring was done in a multiply layer, and shading was done in a separate multiply layer but with intensity turned down to 13-15% (I normally do the shading at around 30% so I can see it better, then turn it down when I'm done). Again, I forgot about the Line Art Layer, which gives me access to cool tools to make the line art look cleaner, but maybe I'll get to that next time.
