I think the problem with colored lines is that they make it seem as if a colored light is shining on the character. For example an orange outline might make it look like the character is standing in front of a fire. That's my reasoning, anyway :)

I get what you mean. I think coloured lines can work well, as long as the artist knows what ther're doing. Which I don't. :P
