[Sawyer] " Well now, let's see...
Go to premiere - check
Land a big part - check
Get the girl!?
...check. "
I've been watching Cats don't Dance. I love that movie. I love the dancing, I love the music, I love a lot of the art, and the love in the plot.
But there is one thing that, every time I watch it, keeps me feeling empty inside after the movie is over. And yesterday I realized what it was: Sawyer and Danny never get to share a kiss!!
After the first dance that they share there is a moment, but that would not make sense. But at the end, when it would make sense, it's that annoying director that (literally) comes in between.
So to get it out of my system, I figured I'd draw the scene, only WITHOUT said annoying director.

Done January 2012. Pencil sketch and inked with pigment liner, scanned it, the rest is Photoshop. I did have a still from the movie as reference in front of me, (which I suck to pretty closely, obviously) but I didn't trace.

Thanks Kitten :) You feel it too after you seen the movie?
It's just that, when you dance, you are focusing on your body and how you move, while at the same time you are letting your feelings soar with the music. So your attention is in you body, in the here and now, where your feelings take wings. That is when you can open your heart and feel love most vibrantly.
You can see it so clearly when Sawyer and Danny dance together in the ally, and again in the closing dance scene at the end of the movie. (Makes me think the director must have been a dance addict too.) Then Sawyer turns this little tease with Danny's "schedule to Stardom" check list into a declaration of her love, and then their desire to share a kiss is almost tangible, and then that director comes in between.
Still, a lovely lovely movie

I knew one of the major marketing execs for "Cats Don't Dance" and she confided in me about a month before the movie came out that they screwed up. There was hardly any hype or advertising, and the "groundbreaking" animation stories hardly lifted eyebrows.
It's a VERY good movie, and should be up there in one of the most memorable animated films of the 1990s. ^^

Woa.. you get around
I learned of the existence of this movie less than a year ago. But I must admit, I was not paying much attention to non-Disney movie announcements at the time, I think. So even if it was marketed properly I might still not have picked up on it at the time.
It's not Disney's style, really, but as far as quality goes, it's in the same league as the Disney Classics.

Oh, I'll have to read that. Also, thanks glad you liked the comic. You know I re-posted it last year? http://pandajenn.com
