This is just something I whipped up when the first line or two popped into my head randomly. I may submit an audio file of a read of this.
The Nightmare from Darrowshear
Outside the town of Darrowshear
Deep in the woods, it doth appear.
It has three eyes, yea, wreathed in flame,
And not a soul dare speak its name.
Its fur is pitch, its scale is lean,
Its gait is quick, those few who've seen.
And from the moonlight 'bove its head,
One sees its fangs so tainted red.
This beast that all who know it fear;
This monster just near Darrowshear.
Those fangs jut from its twisted maw
Like sturdy pikes long left to yaw.
Its claws are nearly long as blades,
And sharper still, when they invade.
Its hide is thick as gnarled yew,
Yet rotted by its look and hue.
This beast that all who know it fear;
That lurks in woods near Darrowshear.
It longs for blood, hunts for the kill,
And none alive can match its skill.
It steals the sheep for midnight feasts,
When it cannot get larger beasts.
Or men, it's said, it sometimes eats,
Audacious fools with no retreat.
This beast that all who know it fear;
This monster just near Darrowshear.
So be forewarned! O, traveler, thou!
And travel not beneath these boughs!
Should your trek bring you nearby,
Steel yourself and hone your eye!
Guard your party--keep it whole!
For it can eat your very soul!
This beast that all who know it fear;
That lurks in woods near Darrowshear.
And if you hear ungodly shrieks,
A man it may have in its cheeks.
And if you hear unholy wails,
The soul of man it doth assail!
But should you hear a whispered growl,
That keeps a tinge of something foul,
A strain to hear a gutteral breath,
You've heard the windy call of death!
And it has come from what I've warned,
That very monster we've all scorned.
This beast that all who know it fear;
This monster just near Darrowshear.
