The pinkish markings on his head and forearms are scars from when he was captured by a shark finning crew. They cut off his dorsal and pectoral fins then threw him back into the ocean. He barely survived, but has come out peppier and stronger for it.

He's a bit of an advocate against shark finning and the shark fin soup trade. Seriously, look it up. It's a horrible business and causes the horrific death of more sharks each year than I care to count. :(
