Indeed. It was fun seeing her get a scene this week, and actually getting name-checked as "Derpy" rather than "Ditzy Doo", but I really wish they hadn't given her the "duhhh" voice and had just portrayed her as clumsy.

Someone I know summed it up as "nice episode, except for the retard jokes." And yeah, that voice made it exactly that awkward and offensive.

so, yes, I much prefer "tongue-tied and distracted due to a crush".

That's precisely why I head-canoned in a decent reason for her to be not-so-bright in that scene. I figure she's a really bright gal, but proximity to Rainbow Dash makes her go all stupid. (It's not like I've never done that around role models, highly charismatic people, or folks I'm crushing on....)

Another possibility I just thought of is... she visited Berry Punch that day before going in to work. Berry offered her some liquid refreshment, and she thought, "Well, I don't usually, but what's the harm?"

Another possibility is that she doesn't work well in spaces that require to be close to buildings due to her eye condition. People with conditions like hers have to learn to see with both and one eye because that one eye can go "temporarily dead" at any moment.

I assumed she'd simply taken a few too many lightning bolts.

My personal headcanon for Derpy is that her special talent is making soap. I know the popular idea is that she's good at blowing bubbles, but soap-making is a slightly more profitable venture.

Or she's a marine biologist and those are air bubbles in water. Everyone else thinks all she can do is crave muffins and drop pianos, but she'll be off exploring the mysteries of the deep, discovering lost sea-pony civilisations, discovering Equestria's equivalent of the Great Old Ones....

Er, maybe she should stick to soap-making after all.

(I meant to say that her Cutie Mark is of air bubbles in water. Damn this lack of editing functionality!)

Then there's the explanation someone came up with, that she is indeed a mailpony, and the bubbles represent bubblewrap!

Well ~I~ think that her cutie mark is space-time bubbles and that she is a time traveler with Doctor Whooves, so there :P

I'm convinced that her crossed eyes are the CAUSE of her clumsiness, that all those things she demolished on the town hall were SUPPOSED to be demolished, just in a safer manner than causing so much panic to Rainbow Dash. (Hence why the Mayor didn't tell Derpy off.) After all, if you couldn't see straight, would you occasionally crash into things?

As for her lack of understanding... yeah, she might be a bit dim. But we know she's at least smart enough to hold down a job and function in society on her own, so DON'T everypony start drawing her with a helmet and drool, please.

Oh--except for the damage to the roof--and that wasn't Derpy crashing directly, it was a thunderstorm she was responsible for that got way out of control.

Scootaloo and Derpy being sisters is now my headcanon. :3

I don't know, I don't think of Derpy as stupid as more...just not really good at thinking things through. And clumsy because of her wayward eyes. She's otherwise always willing to help, seems to have many talents, and kind. She's also got the confidence and the oddball streak that I like so much about Pinky. Neither Pinky nor Derpy care that they are seen as weird by everybody else. I really hope to see those two sometime in a future episode being bizarre together. :D

I honestly really liked her voice. I thought it was really fitting. I'm really happy they gave her OUR name for her and gave her some real lines. I hope they do it again.

Hopefully they can rebuild town hall with something other than gingerbread. Because that is one structurally unsafe building if just sitting down on it could make you crash through it!

Scootaloo is related to Cherilee, I'm pretty sure I've seen that somewhere... I just derped and can't remember how though.

That was in older generations, where Scootaloo was an earth pony. Her G4 relatives haven't been shown or mentioned yet.

A lot of fans assumed the same thing, but Lauren Faust stated on DA that Rainbow Dash and Scootaloo are not sisters.
