My point exactly. Interesting to note though, is a timeline of electronic music.
60s - Beatles (pop, though electric organs were occasionally used)
70s - Kraftwerk say four words into a vocoder and all of a sudden the electronic genre is born
80s - Every man and his dog has a yamaha
90s - boppier sounding electronica and pop broke off from the trancier stuff.
2000 - every man and his dog is listening to euro and dance music
2005 - house makes a comeback
2010 - end of the "doof" era, beginning of the "wob" era.
Maybe in another fifty years the "wob" era will be replaced with the "bleep" era, and we get some bizzare new genre called blipbloopcore. o_o

I do enjoy myself some dubtep, but I don't really like the mainstream dubstep. I'm not a huge fan of Skrillex. IMO, Klayplex makes the best dubstep. Their dubstep doesn't have that much wub in it. It's more hardstyle, but it's got dubstep roots. Celldweller's pretty good with dubstep, too, but he's a major genre-jumper, so he only has a few dubstep songs out there.
I'm with you.
Dubstep has been around for a long time. Long before Skrillex came about.
Skrillex is just a very popular dubstep artist, and his real contribution was to mix it with glitch in his own unique manner. If anything, he's more of an off-shoot.
But remember...the repetition issue always an issue with any off-shoot of electronica. Creating a niche requires distinction, and unfortunately the distinction tends to make every song sound the same.

I do find that, even with some metal. Syncopate it and off-time it as much as possible, but if you repeat the same sequence too many times stimultaneously then it tends to get boring. Psytrance is a good example of a genre that repeats, but tries to hide this by constantly building up and throwing fancy things over the top.
The irony here is that I love off-shoots and subgenres of electronica. Who'da thunk it?
