Denial.
Denial denial denial.
Richart isn't the pretty side of anything. It's the embodiment of bitterness and vindictive attitude. It's the cruel selfish poisoned monster that denies you happiness, denies you the right to be happy, and continues to trudge up old bitter memories so that you continue in that brainless vindictive state that leaves you cold and mean.
Richart has this obsessive side to him that makes one obsessive in the little wrongs done to you, and you wish a cruel and horrible state on those that inflicted them. His mentality of "return twice fold" is the kind of attitude that starts conflict and war, and somehow it delights him because he get to feed this unlimited bitterness he's experienced, and wants everyone to feel the same.
Richart is pathetic. He's cowardly and cruel. He's stuck in this cycle of anger and self pity, and he loves being the earwig that drives it's host to madness, simply to rid itself of this little pest.
He is Denial and Venom.
His only asset are that he has a certain old world manners and charm to him.
I won't deny that I have been told he looks reminiscent of Scar [Lion King] crossed with Shere Khan [Jungle book]. Honestly, his design was based of Dennis O'hare [theater actor, google him]. Specifically when he played 2 villain characters of the same megalomaniac attitudes. If he came out reminiscent of the previous, well then in a way I'm happy- as both contain some character attributes that Richart has. Hopefully, not TOO similar in visual appearance.
Richart is one of the villain characters to appear in my graphic novel "Jötunn", which hopefully will be out later this year.
On a good note, Richart does have a redemption to come... although, his story will probably be a short spin off from the main graphic novel, to be told time permitting and interest as well.
The funny irony about all this? I was denying that Richart was part of my character up until pretty much this morning. So in a weird way, the attribute that was denial, was denying my willingness to deny his existence. Say what? Effing pest.

Is it crazy that your descriptions really strike a cord in me? It's like I only realize similar feelings where there when you personify them.
I really like his design, I kind of see the Scar only in the bottom pose, but other than that he looks original and interesting.

The caricature-like depiction of the sneering nose is so personifying - even when he looks directly at you, he's peering down it.
Dare I say I'm not seeing Scar or Sherekhan, but some leonine/raptor mix. Again, pardon the Jung, but the idea of the beats paradox here really embodies the concepts you put forth: the devourer of the living (the bestial lion) and the devourer of the dead (the vulture/raven) which are really two aspects of the "destructive nature" (making living things dead, making dead things gone). Also, for the lion without a mane (here, his small non-noticable haircut) represents no pride (and not hubris, but true honor).
I wish my thoughts were more organized, because I feel that the rendition is very true to form but I am not explaining it correctly.

I think your pegging it spot on. Not for nothing the wallpaper I made of him has a vulture circling at the top.
Also to note what you said about the main- exactly as part of Richart's exterior "ugliness" that is only personifying his interior one. Jungian and synchronicity, or plainly subconscious, what you are saying is in total reflection of what he is. SO GO ME for being that awesome. ;)

Really interesting character, and as always, your descriptions are very thought provoking. As weird as this might sound, the description kind of reminds me of the dark side of the force, how at times you aren't even aware you are tapping into it, and once it gets in, it makes you think and do things you otherwise wouldn't dream of otherwise. And the harder you try to fight it, the deeper it digs its claws into you.
I guess I can see what you mean by people likening his design to those classic villains, though I thought of a sphinx at first glance. Either way, great work.

I am happy to hear your comment on many levels! For starters, I'd rather everyone get a different visual impression of my character- especially since they are reflecting specific emotions and concepts. It might just be an indication as to what the viewer would represent the same emotion as!
As for your Force comment- I certainly think there is a likeness to it. After all, we are discussing he same concept, it's just the exterior symbol and presentation that vary from one person to another. Although, your "Claws digging deeper" really feels liek it's pegging Richart's character spot on. Lots O claws. XD
