Victory is ours, because our shaman's prayers and spells placed the Iron Demon God on our side !!
I take advantage of the badly drawn horse to upload this pic on this site because I like it very much, although apart from it, the furry side is.... inexistent.
It's been a very, very long time I didn't draw a Dangaioh-like mecha head, but it is one of my best ever of this kind.
LOL although I drew it without any reference, it looks like I studied the original so much when I was younger, that it's closer to it than what I thought after all XD (see http://www.freakystuff.de/wallpaper/8_1107.html or http://www.aldearpg.net/Foros/uploa.....avatar_119.jpg for a head closeup)
Oh, and the context was inspired by Gasaraki BTW...

Hummmm, I don't really agree with you.
Gainax made many revolutions, and I don't think their robots are generic, on the contrary. The Eva was a revolution in the fact that these were actually cloned creatures under an armor, and not robots (even if a few examples of this can be found before Evangelion, but nothing comparable in terms of development of the idea). Gainax gathered everything that already existed, but made something whole new and revolutionary with it. Also, this slim design with relatively few mechanical parts was something brand new, not to mention the strange shapes taken by the angels.
As for Gundam, I think what you say is totally wrong. Gundam was at the ORIGIN of the "real robots" stories (in the design as in the story itself), and if you find that it tastes like everything... Well, that's simply because EVERYBODY copied Gundam after !!!! So I won't say at all Sunrise's Gundams are the chicken of the giant robot world, they were on the contrary the eggs, a complete turn compared to the Nagai-style robots that were done before.

I meant generic in that they all seem to be large humanoid creatures based off of samurai and shogun armours, especially the helmet. Yes, the four EVAs were modelled after the four Barons of Hell, but even then it seemed more like taking a clay model and tweaking it than starting from scratch. The lead and enemy giant robot of the parody/homage series "Dual! Parallel Trouble Adventure" tend to try and break that mould with robots more alien in design.
I guess you could call Gundam the origin of giant robot stories if you discount Tetsujin 28-go, and everything between that and 1979.

Oh... But that's only a small part of it, for example, compare a Gundam, an Eva and Dangaioh, they are all based heavily on samurai armors... But bear almost no resemblance the one with the other !! For me, that's almost the same as saying all human-proportion based robots are generic, that IS true... But that's also totally ignoring the design diversity, you cannot compare Maximillian from The Black Hole with Maria from Metropolis with the robot from Saturn3 with the robots from I, Robot... And so on.
As for Gundam : the origin of REALISTIC giant robot, as I precised. :)
