Chapter 20
Dashed was in a dream like state, he was enjouing his summer vacation with all four Olivias when he woke up. He felt a knife of cold piercing his side, that knife traveled up his side and onto his chest. Is fleash was splitting, his fur couldn’t protect him from it! He opened his eyes in alarm and rose up expecting to see Carla carving up his stomach, however he found himself on the back of a jeep with wind blowing onto his exposed stomach. He yelled, “STOP THE CAR!”
Immediately the car screeched to a halt Dashed hit his head on the back of the seat, hurting his nose. Dashed moaned and an alarmed Carla looked behind her, “Dashed! You’re awake! My god, I thought you would never wake up! What the hell happened?”
Dashed was about to ask what is going on when he noticed the world around him, it was a wasteland of white. Snow covered the ground in rolling hills of paper, unbroken, and pure. His mouth ran dry as he felt the intense cold and felt the heavy jacket that he was wearing. Not just that but Olivia was different too, her face was softer, her fur turned white, and her hair…that was the greatest change. When he saw Carla last she had wavy dark hair that wasn’t well kept, dirty, and dull, but now her hair was a straight blond and very clean. He was so shocked that he almost passed out once more, “How long have I been out?”
Carla was nearly crying with joy, “Almost three months! Dashed, I can’t begin to tell you how happy I am that you’re awake. L-look, your-you’re fur is white now.”
Dashed looked down and indeed his fur was now the white of winter, he didn’t understand how he was even alive! The fact that Olivia didn’t just kill him and move on was an amazement in of itself considering how Dashed acted, but why was Carla tearing up like this?
“How were you able to feed me?”
“I-I-I read all the books I could and your body seemed to do most of the chewing and drinking by itself, I don’t know why or how this happened but I’m so glad it did, oh Dashed how I missed you.”
“Listen, Carla, I understand how stressful things might have been but I need to know where we are.”
“Oh, of course,” Carla said seemingly snapped back to her old self, “We are about half-way to Canada right now. We are almost to Minnesota and from there we can enter Canada. Dashed, isn’t this great! We’re almost out of here!”
Dashed was unable to talk for the longest time, he had just come out of a dream world where he was so happy. He regretted losing it and the warmth and the fun of the Olivias and he didn’t want to lose that. However he also wanted to be in the real world, where he could be of use to people. Where he could publish his book and make his story known. There was just one question that was burning in the back of his mind, “What happened?”
“That day, the day you escaped from me the fourth time I knew that something was wrong. I-I’m not proud at what I did but, I read through your journal, I came to realize that under your travels you came up with four different Olivias to help you cope with the loneliness and the pain. Each one represented what you loved, the first one represented what you liked to do, the second one was your joy and personal experiences you wanted with a girl, the third one was what you were most attracted to, sexually anyways, and the final one was what you were, in female form, all in all this helped you deal with the wasteland and gave you the strength to carry on.”
“I see,” Dashed stated, “Listen Carla, I’m going to need to go back, I want to know what caused this and what is really going on here.”
“What do you mean?” Carla asked nervously
“I think I know what’s going on and why it’s happening but I need to go back and revisit my “memories” to be sure, I won’t do it if you don’t want me to but I must, for my sanity.”
So there they sat for the longest time, pondering on what they were going to do, Carla split between telling Dashed what she wanted and letting him leave her again. Finally she choked out, “no”
“I understand,” Dashed said bowing his head.
“No, not here, we need to get to a safer place before we can do this, I want to be sure that you won’t hurt yourself and that I can protect you from the cold, in fact I know just the place; a few miles north of here was my family’s winter home, we stocked it with everything we needed to survive a winter. Keep in mind it’s a day’s journey away and it’s over a hundred years old since it has been handed down from generation to generation. However, it’s the only place I feel safe right now and I don’t want to lose you so quickly again.”
“Ok, but why did we leave, what happened to the house in Bolder?”
“It was destroyed, and it’s partly your fault,” she said with a hint of depression.
Sorry for taking so long, I just had no idea where to go from where I was at. Due to me not knowing where to take the story I think that I will only be able to upload once a week.
