Here is a work in progress of a wolf head I am furring tonight.
This is the fuzzball stage, where it's partially shaved enough to show the foam details for gluing, but long enough to shave in the contours of the fur when it's applied.
This is the point of no return, where one mistake could make you go back all the way to foaming a new head depending on what you mess up. Though it can go rather quickly if everything manages to come together without any problem. Most of the time it is so nerve racking that furring and shaving could take up to a full day to get it 100% right.

shaving is why I use short fur whenever possible, but not all colors have matching short... and even when I use short I STILL find myself trimming a lot, namely the ends of muzzles, along the upper and lower lips, at the corners of the eyes... so even with half inch fur it still gets a nerve racking trim .__.
I started making my own guards for clippers. You can also sand down, and file the guards that come with most clippers to fit fur better.
Just take some 150 grit sand paper to a spare clipper guard, and sand down the teeth a little bit so you can get wider materials into it to cut.

I use them too. I just started to find that I could not plain out fur with scissors. Great for little details. Try out some modified clippers sometime. I use a little Whal called the Peanut for detail stuff. Its far more powerful than the cheap target ones, and it's only as big as a fun sized candy bar.
I honestly had to try out, and adjust more than a few clippers. You have to spend a few bucks on something close to the top of the line to really get good results. Higher end Andis 2 speed animal clippers are really good. Anything less than a Whal Designer will not really work ether.
The point of no return... aaaaaaa yeah D8 It usually takes a couple hours for me to hype myself up enough to actually start the gluing process once I've got the face all sewed together. XD I need a motivational speaker like a dude before a football game or something, or have Mel Gibson come ride in on a horse shouting about freedom and hot glue. The whole time I'm gluing I'm going by inches just thinking "jesus I hope this doesn't get onto the fur... OH FUCK A STRING OF IT... phew ok... HOLY SHIT ANOTHER ONE... ok..."
Holy Hell...that scares me. I am still waiting on the fur I ordered to get to my house! I've already stressed myself out about making this damned head now there's another More stressful part?! I know it's coming. Guess it just makes me fret more when I see people who actually know what they're doing stress!!
