Four years ago, a 12-year-old reptile activist (that's "activist for reptiles") became mixed up in a bizarre series of events that resulted in him being transported into an alternate dimension, taking on the form of Scaler - the blue chameleon with the powers of shapeshifting and electricity. Using his newfound abilities, the reptile activist (that's "activist that IS a reptile") sought out to save 20 eggs that had been stolen in order to turn the hatchlings into weapons.
Along the way, Scaler found his long-lost father, who had not left him in the past, but rather had also been transported into the same dimension. After saving the 20 eggs, the two of them made it safely home.

It's been four years since that time, but now something new looms on the horizon. Reptilian experiments are on the rise and even a branch of the military is becoming involved. And where there is an issue of reptilian rights to be fought, Bobby Jenkins is sure to be involved. But he soon finds that he is going to be more involved than he thought possible.
During a one-boy protest, dark clouds begin to form. Not one to be deterred, Bobby continued to shout protests at the lab. Little did Bobby know that the storm was more than a freak of chance.

A break in at a pet store. Two criminals ignore the cash in the registers. They ignore the dogs, the cats, the pet supplies (no one ever broke into a pet store for a chew toy), and instead they start taking all of the iguanas caged there. As they begin to leave, a bolt of lightning strikes the lamp post outside, leaving them blinded by the flash.
"I think you should probably put them back where you came from," They hear someone say. Their eyes clear just enough to see someone in blue holding a light. A cop?
"We ain't doing no such thing, pig." He pulls his gun and finds that the figure in blue is gone. He has a brief chance to hope that they had run off when a jolt of electricity shocks his hand, rendering it temporarily useless and forcing him to drop the gun.
"Iguanas? Pigs? Boy, you must have the whole animal kingdom after you."
The voice was coming from behind him. But how?
"Now, this is your last warning. Put the iguanas back, or there will be trouble."
His partner raised his hands into the air in surrender. "Okay, pal. We're sorry. We'll leave them be." And taking the bags, he places them gently back into the store window.
Nursing his shocked hand, the injured thief looked in shocked dismay at his partner. Had he been sold out? His partner winked at him. Just putting the iguanas out of the line of fire.
"Now, get out of here and don't let me see you again." Said the voice of the young man in blue.
"Yes, sir," his partner said amiably. Then quicker than he could react to, his partner pulled his own pistol and fired with deadly accuracy in the direction of the voice. "Guess you won't have to worry about seeing us again."
The injured thief's eyes were beginning to clear just enough to see again, but what caught is eyes was beyond his belief. The man in blue... a lizard? And now on the other side of them again?
"I was hoping you'd do that." The lizard said.
Eyewitness accounts in the police reports attest to witnessing a man in blue confronting the criminals. The criminals seemed to have second thoughts and put the lizards back into the pet store. Then there was a muzzle flash. What came next defied explanation. It was as if an electrical storm engulfed the three of them.
So... this is something I've been wanting to work on for awhile, and yet I held myself back until I beat the game. Scaler is an awesome platformer on PS2 that I liked even before I was open about being a scaly.
Since playing it, I was always hoping there would be more of him in video game form. But alas, this has not yet come to pass.
What I really want to do is make THIS into a comic as well, because I have some great ideas of what could happen. It's just... drawing comics is so challenging. I've learned this from my experience on the Cynthia comic. Regardless, I hope to work on this, especially if I ever do decide to make the leap and start using a drawing pad instead of pencil and paper.
Anyway, a couple of quick notes about this drawing. I wanted to do a skyline in it, but I couldn't really make it look the way I wanted, so I changed my plans. I'll save the skyline for another Scaler picture later. Since four years have passed, I made Scaler look older and slightly more mature (only slightly, don't worry).
One great idea I had that I didn't put into this short story involved power lines. See in the game, Scaler grinds along electrified vines to gain electrical energy for his most powerful attack. My idea is... what if he grinds along power lines to much the same effect, and to get from one place to another? Yes, we know intellectually that power lines wouldn't bear his weight well, but from a story standpoint... what a mode of transportation!
Well, I have another request drawing to knock out. See you next time, everyone! =)

Oh, one more thing. The drawing that originally inspired me to make a story of this kind is this one: http://www.furaffinity.net/view/5318355
