it is interesting that you use the word 'stuck' because the song is about when Fafnir fell into the pit trap that his brother laid out for him. :]

i also have a steel string (epiphone) i don't play with as much

I used Reason 3.0 to arrange and mix it, I used the Edirol digital recorder to record it.

I'm thinking about trying reason 3.0.
It looked kind of...complicated. But the reason I hate fl studio is it has problems recording. Maybe I'll try it.

I still use the Shure cardioid microphone I was issued 15 years ago in college when I was a Broadcasting major. I swear you can pound nails with it.

Reason is actually a lot easier than it looks. I took a class last January in studio recording techniques at my college, and they taught us how to use pretty much everything that's standard in Reason (and some plugins too) in maybe 2 hours. You get the hang of it real quick.

Oh wow, this is great! Did you improvise the guitar, or was it written out/planned beforehand? Also, I love the way the snare drum sounds, that whole distant and "short" hit . . . it fits so perfectly with the rest of the piece.

since i have to play each part first and then arrange it all afterward, the guitar was all planned ahead :]

actually i should specify that certain small segments were not originally planned in the arrangement, but as i experimented with the arrangement i realized they would make for nice nuances here and there :]

You might have said this earlier somewhere, but how did you record the stuff? Did you just mic the guitar and the drums, or are the drums a machine or what? ALSO, did you record the parts separately or did you do it live? And is the guitar a one-take?

well after i get the idea for the song all set, i figure out the tempo by using a metronome
then i play each guitar part individually using the metronome as a reference for tempo. i record each part a few times and choose the best parts of each take. so the guitar is made up of several takes and layers.
i play drums, so i just did that on the drum set we have.
then i just layer and arrange everything in Reason and add reverb and mix/EQ everything to my liking. ta-dah!

Pretty nice dude. A few things caught my ear.. mainly it was just a part in the drums where the track seemed off. You might have done that on purpose... but it's still kinda rough. And your playing seems a little stiff.. or one stringed. The thing that impressed me the most was the composition, or your use of the software to bring it all together. And A-fucking-plus on the key change.

I'm even more impressed that you find the time to: Be a colleger, draw monthly for a website /comic /gallery, compose music, and work a job. (at least I think I remember you saying something about a job)... anyways. You gots major multitasking skillzorz.
