I often liked the idea of Nala wanting to be bigger and greedier than Simba. Plus, as some have said, the mingling of the weight and the Disney lines really work well.
I always felt chubbing them up as cubs was really intriguing, as you would then figure if they are this big now, imagine how much larger they'll get as grown-ups.
