Here it is, February 1, 2012; the start of a brand new 'sweeps month' for yours truly...
And I'd like to begin with the first in a new series of drawings that were simply doodled (with a ball point pen) on scrap paper, because I never got around to rendering the actual work with pencil and (fine line marker) ink.
I always like to try my hand at creating a visual gag reminiscent of the 'marginal drawings' of MAD Magazine's own Sergio Aragonés (who currently has his own title from Bongo Comics - "Sergio Aragonés' Funnies"). The closest I came was this 'Cinco De Mayo' gag - involving a fat hippopotamus who provided both a piñata full of candy (for an eager young fox kit with a bat and blindfold) and his explanation of how it was made. Unlike the conventional method of making it out of paper maché, said hippo used his 'body cast' (from a previous stay at the hospital)!
And apart from the holiday message on his T-shirt, the image contains no other words - so its humor could be understood by all languages (hopefully)!
