One of 9 boys I took in yesterday.
6 of them are going to be fostered by a friend of mine, and the 3 with 'issues' are staying with me as permanent residents.
This is Stylo, he has one eye. The owner claims it has been there since birth.
All these lads have mites, and haven't had a brilliant diet, so their coats are a little rough. They were well loved, though.
My three boys, Stylo, Lord Flashheart and Otis, have all been kept separate from one another as the owner said they fight. They don't, and haven't since being here.
You can tell the difference, though, between my 3 who have all lived alone, and the other 6 who are in a bonded group.
My 3 are skinnier, less muscle, more nervous, more depressed, and not coping with the big changes half as well as the lads in the group.
I do wish people would learn what is serious rat fighting and what is normal, and stop pulling rats out of their groups and housing them alone based on one little scuffle. Rats can't sit and have a conversation about hierarchy, like we could, they show it by posturing and having little scuffles.
When people whip a rat out of the cage as the first sign of drama, they're just prolonging the process, confusing the rats, and not allowing them to do what they naturally do.

I still want him. I love him.
and yeah. I've gotten so good at it I can not even be looking at a cage, hear squeaking and tell other people what 'squeak' means what. I get alot of raised eyebrows, but when you've had as many rats as I have for as long as I have I guess you just get used to it. None of my rats currently live alone. Some males dont get along with other males, but that's just another reason i have so many spare cages around. Just because they might not get along with one rat doesnt mean they wont get along with any rats. I tend to try all things I can before having to house a rat alone and I think I've only had one or two rats that couldn't live with anyone else.

pinning each other down and such is just them being teritorial and finding out the pecking order, and sometimes they nip or bite. If they start going for each others bellys or genitals thats serious
We always introduce new rats to each other in an empty bath, neutral ground you see.
sorry if Im saying anything you alreayd know!

i had a couple boys fight real bad one time, leaving a big long gash in one of they're chests. little antibiotic ointment daily and he recovered completely in just a few days.. but after that they seemed to stop fighting quite as much. granted it was my fault putting 2 similarly aged boys together, even though they looked like absolute twins(both himalayan boys)
My girls always got on well in they're little 'family' of four.
