The idea behind this is that Thenyr just lost a magical duel with someone who has an issue with servants of the divine, believing them to be mindless followers...and he decided to make Thenny's form match that perception.

I really, really like the touch of the flight feathers falling out. Just because I've got physics and reactions and kinematics and all that wacky stuff in my head after an exam week from hell, it'd make more sense for the magic, transforming force to simply cause the feathers to fall out instead of changing them as well. It'd be more efficient.
