Reminds me of this one commercial where there are two manly-man type lumberjack dudes competing for who can cut down a tree first. One of them wins and he's all, "YEAAAH!" The other looks all sad, and then the winner sees it, they hug.

I think it's pretty funny man. :P
But that aside, I think the developers made the right choice as far as how marriage works in the game as a social statement, and that there will always be people who need to chill the fuck out because either no, they don't get it or it just wasn't aimed at them directly or indirectly. If everyone in our culture had the same viewpoint then we wouldn't be much of a culture.
