Depends. Are they masturbating to actual scenes of torture and death, or are they masturbating to illustrations and stories that are clearly shown as fantasy? There's a difference between taking pleasure (sexual or otherwise) in a fantasy and taking pleasure in the real thing.
If they acted on those fantasies by actually harming someone?
Yes, but that's also a matter for the police.
If they acted on them by roleplaying in risk-aware consensual scenes with other adults, or if they simply made illustrations or wrote stories?
No, though I'd want to keep up a dialogue with them to make sure they were being safe about it, and if they seemed like they were taking risks with others or were troubled by it, I'd advise psychiatric help. Assuming I was professionally qualified to make the judgement, I'd consult the relevant literature. For example, the DSM-IV TR diagnostic criteria for sexual sadism are:
A. Over a period of at least 6 months, recurrent, intense sexually arousing fantasies, sexual urges, or behaviors
involving acts (real, not simulated) in which the psychological or physical suffering (including humiliation) of the victim is sexually exciting to the person.
B. The person has acted on these sexual urges with a nonconsenting person, or the sexual urges or fantasies cause marked distress or interpersonal difficulty.
Note the specifications of "real, not simulated" and the whole of the B. criterion, and that only meeting a single criterion is not generally sufficient to reach a diagnosis. I'd cite more current literature, but the DSM-V is still in the works.

I think you need to study psychology before you go throwing people into an institution. A fetish isn't really something by choice; you either like something, or you don't. You don't know WHY they like it unless you like it too. If you don't like it, then just stop being an immature child and ignore it. Besides, it's just the internet. There's no use to take it seriously; nobody's going to commend you for your opinion. It's not like everyone's just going to stop what they're doing to listen to you. Deal with it.
Whether they view this images, draw it, roleplay it, act it out, etc are their choice. Having the fetish however is not their choice. That is something that just is or isn't, depending on the person.
There is a limit which should not be passed on some of those, and that limit being real life. Obviously people shouldn't go around killing each other in real life for one thing, but those that are into those things can roleplay it without harming anyone. (Keep in mind that I hate gore and death. I am just trying to make a point by using that as an example.)

Depends on the fetish. Some are completely harmless in real life. Others are pretty obvious that they are harmful. Scat, snuff, gore, torture, and many others like them, all harmful in real life.
The issue is that some people refuse to accept that people like things in roleplay that they don't like or do in real life.

Yeah, screw other people not having the same tastes as you and sometimes hoping for a thumbnail as a courtesy so they know what something is in advance in case they don't like that certain extreme thing and don't want to see it in their message center.
Dumb other people having different opinions.
Dumb other people having different opinions.
Well that's nice for you, but some people are, or at least squeamish or something about it. It's just a common courtesy so people don't have to look at it in their message centers if they don't want to, there's absolutely no need to insult people who want or like preview thumbnails as if they're just whiny babies.
It's not really "dealing with problems" so much as "HEY look I think you're all dumb for thinking this way, my way is superior and I'm stubborn and I don't care what you say hahaha take that", and going "well if you don't like it you can just not look or comment!" doesn't really justify it as an okay thing to do, nor does it actually make you look like less of an ass or absolved of fault, nor does it make the people that are upset or insulted that want to speak their own mind more like the asses or at fault for controversy.
But yeah okay, whatever, nobody can question other people's attitudes or opinions because they should just ignore them if they don't like them, fine. 9_9

Okay then. Whatever.
This isn't gonna stop me from doing these kinds of things.
Like I said, some people DO find these funny.
And really these kinds of things are no different from people making political comics making fun of the president or other politcal figures.
It is no different that newspaper comics that poke fun at certain groups of people.
So, yeah. If I'm wrong, well I'm wrong. Bleh.

Certain fetishes like scat should always require a thumbnail for the simple reason that IMO it is gross and a real mood-killer. Those who get off on it...well, whatever. That's them. But cum, on the other hand, makes up for a vast majority of pictures. So one doesn't so strictly need to post thumbnails over them.
*thumbs up*
In my opinion, honestly: as long as everyone involved is able to give risk-aware informed consent (and it doesn't advocate doing harm to others), it should be allowed. I might not enjoy it, I might even be disgusted by the content, but I support the right of people to create it.

Honestly, unless the resulting thumbnail resized from the original submission winds up being too small to make out, and/or the title is misleading, then I can't understand people complaining when they click it of their own volition.
I put thumbnails on stuff that i know is going to be difficult to make out at the smaller size, but that's about it.

I agree with this so much. If you don't like something, just grow up and ignore it. It's no use to act like a spoiled brat and whine about it; it's not like somebody's going to stop what they like doing just because you're too ignorant to just not look at it. It's not like anyone asked them to look at it, and it's not like anything you can say will make them stop.
I kinda like the rape and tourtor and death, it dosnt effect me, like ive writed a story with that stuff in it.
But if someone likes their fetishs then ok, dont be a dick to them about it gosh, its like. walking down the street and stay.
"Hey you, i dont like your hair".. or even if you walk interumped 2 lovings getting it on, "i dont like the way your having sex"... Its real stupid -__-

I find it funny people actually debate on fetishes and how they either should or should not be here even though they already are and it is unlikely anything will cause them to go away(Unless say, Internet and/or humanity ceased to exist). But I digress.
I totally agree with this thumbnail. XD

Some people are just close-minded. I know that's a tired, overused phrase, but it's true. While I don't agree with quite a number of fetishes out there, and I won't deny that some of them -are- a bit disturbing, it's not like I'd gouge out my eyes for seeing them.
I -do- tend to agree that a little bit of a heads up is nice, and the effort involved in a 100x100 thumbnail is almost minimal (I usually just take a square snippet of my works), because those things I don't enjoy seeing, I have fair warning not to see them. If someone doesn't do them, that's no one's problem I think. It's just a friendly reference beforehand.
Also, a lot of artists I've seen will post quick summaries in the title, like sexes involved, or fetishes involved. That works just as well, and is even easier than thumbnails.
But I digress. To each their own. Don't like it, Don't look.

Yeah, some people kind of take it overboard, even with M/F pics getting thumbnailed. but it's such a tiny detail that it's not even really worth fighting over. If I'm cruising through my pictures and come across something I don't like, I think "whoops, that's not mine." -click-
Oh, retail will harden how much of a misanthrope a person could become.

You really lack common courtesy. That's what thumbnails are for, so people don't have to look at things they don't like when they're trying to get off.
You can go on and on about "oh we're adults here act like one, it doesn't hurt you to see stuff" blah blah blah. The fact is, seeing stuff that you find gross is a major mood killer.

If you see a thumbnail just don't click it if you think it might be that. Its not like they have a full view image of it. The only time I will complain is if someone posts a thumbnail of something cute or something and then the image is off something gross (false advertisement). If you can tell what it is though, don't $%&#ing click it if you don't like it.
Four of those things you listed there (which are considered extreme kinks) apply to my fetish list: 1. Hyper (obviously we share this one xD), 2. Vore, 3. Sounding, 4. Watersports.
The rest, although I don't like them, I can respect that others are into them. They aren't effecting me, and they aren't effecting anyone but the people who participate in them.
