Great piece - nice, clean schematics.
I would make one observation: You may recall from the "Wrath of Khan[sp], that Kirk commented on Khan
tending to think in two dimensions, as if their spaceships were tanks on land or boats in the water and not spaceships moving in a 3d space. That made it possible for them to maneuver above and below Khan. I'd say that this design has something of that same problem - all the big guns seem to be pointed fore and aft, with significantly less firepower directed above and below the plane of the ship. Perhaps if the guns were drawn like some of the old-time battleships with cannons sticking out of swivels to make them look more like they could fire anywhere in a hemisphere above or below the ship.

Again, it's a matter of artistic license - we are accustomed to moving around on the ground as a flat plane. Vehicles, weapons, etc that conform to the same pattern seem naturally appealing to us. But space is a totally different environment - what works in 2D doesn't necessarily work well in 3D. More advanced spaceships, better adapted to conditions in a vast vacuum, probably won't give quite the same visual effect.
Seems like you could change the ships radically - make them something more radially symmetrical, like certain diatoms and radiolorans which have very impressive shapes, or else change the weaponry. Instead of cannons, there might be cup-like structures in which intense balls of energy might be formed and then projected as balls or beams in any direction.
Unfortunately, then you are no longer really in the Star Trek universe. So it's a vexing problem - is the ship going to be aesthetically pleasing or will it impress the engineering audience? Simply having turrets pointing up and down would destroy the visual flow of the design.
The life of an artist is never an easy one! This is where the radical creativity comes in!
