Okay...I looked through her gear and either the pistol has to go, or it has to become a different kind of gun or at best scenario, fire different projectiles, like rubber bullets. There is a reason that grenade launchers are used to fire teargas grenades and other projectile rounds that are used to emit a gas. The most commonly used bullet round, a 9mm, is simply too small to release enough gas to knock someone out unless you poured it as a liquid onto a rag and shoved it into someone's face.

The suggestions would be rubber bullets, or maybe give her a sci-fi blaster with stun capabilities, but that doesn't go with the theme. I have found video of personal defense pistols firing cs gas, which is in a powder form in the bullet and turn into a gas when fired. But the biggest downside is the gun has a very short range, a range where a can of pepper spray is more effective, especially if you have multiple attackers as you won't need to worry about running out of ammo. And the effect merely makes the person hack and cough for a short while, making it more temporary than pepper spray. So it's good for a temporary incapacitation of a single attacker, providing the victim a chance to flee. And in those videos, the person firing the gun usually fires more than one round.
