Let's see - where to start with this. I absolutely love Iron Savior, in a way that I can't really express in words - they were the first power metal band that I discovered (due to a happy misclick when looking at lyrics for Iron Maiden), and their signature sound now just holds an incredible amount of nostalgia for me. Piet Sielck holds a very traditionalist view of metal, staying focused on guitars and avoiding the ten-minute epics that the genre can go into - but despite the more aggressive sound than most music I listen to, he writes the most incredible choruses ever. And his music is surprisingly complicated when I examine it, using chord changes to go to places I wouldn't normally think of.
I worked up a version of Coming Home this evening, mostly having thought about it in this style due to the beginning bass solo's incredible similarity to the music from Road Rash. This is just the introduction (which follows the "sci-fi intro" formula to the letter) and the verse and chorus repeated a few times, as if they were the background music to a shoot-em-up or something - as if proof were needed that the Megadrive was incredible at metal in an outdated sound chip.

They seem to be a relatively unknown band even in the general power metal field, especially for a band that had so much of Gamma Ray's membership in it at various points - but it makes it really special to find fans of them :) I think part of why I like them so much is the way that it's so clear that Piet loves what he's doing - despite the 'tougher' sound than a lot of power metal, he always seems to have fun with it in things like the commentary tracks for Battering Ram (if you've heard those).
Battering Ram is my favourite album of theirs, hehe. X3 But yeah, I quite enjoy Piet's work, not just in Iron Savior but in other groups he's worked on like Savage Circus. You can REALLY tell he's the writer behind that band despite not singing... (apart from some backup)
Part of the nostalgia I mentioned in the comments was the... wonderful discovery that there was 'real' music written in the style that I loved so much from the 90s games :) It seems to be only recently that people have started picking up on this and forming bands around the concept, with Powerglove being the first that I can recall...
