An ageless battle between Magic and Science, which is better? Which has a more "fun" outcome? Well, let's try and figure it out shall we?
I, Mephis, being an aged kitsune, (of 423! I ain't that old yet.) have challenged my basement dweller and pet, Desmond, to a little contest as to which is better.
My knowledge of spells, enchantments, curses and collection of 'artifacts' that I have found over my time, traveling?
or
His knowledge of hard coded science, programming, chemicals and collection of inventions and machines?
Well, we're looking for a lucky test sub- I mean victi-I mean... .. VOLUNTEER to help us with our little debate.
And here is the basic things required to help you on your way. (Instructions)
1. Go ahead and send a message of your arrival and selection as to which is better in your opinion. (Note me to which you picked. Commenting your idea on this journal will disqualify you from the contest, noting Desmond or Shiro is of the same consequence.)
2. Pick a side, and be clear. (Science or Magic?)
3. Would you like the other person, to be present during the demonstration? (If you picked Science, would you like Me to be present to witness why Science is better? or vice versa)
4. Explain to me how you would go about with this suggestion? Don't want to waste good magic or cursed gold for a debauchery. (Be clear in your request. Hammering out the details, and if you know how to format / 'work' comic pages or sequential pages with previous commissioners beforehand will net you bonus points.)
5. Will one of us be personally helping you with your experiment? (AKA Will your explosion, magical mishap, or 'experiment' blow up in me, or Desmond's face, including you involving a TF of either one of us? You get extra points for that as well, since hey, it's fun!)
6. And finally, if you are willing to help fund this venture. (You'll get a lot of bonus points for accepting at least some of the cost, but I will not say NO to people who give me a clear, excellent idea, and ask if it could be for free. I don't mind it.)
And finally, after this experiment, understand that a friend of mine
catmonkshiro will be chronicling these events and putting them up in picture format, so hopefully you are aware of his aversions to certain things, as he will not be depicting them in any of his artistic stylings. (If you know me, Desmond or Shiro, then I hope you have the sense to not give me an idea that will turn any of us off.)
Any and all suggestions are welcome, but sometimes mixing the two (magic and science) isn't a good idea, especially if it is not reasoned, as there have been a lot of scary amalgamations to nature that have sprung up from their creation.
(In short if you like the combination of the two, then be clear and explain why it should turn out that way. Yeah. I'm asking people to REASON magic and science co-existing into one thing. Ouch! But if it makes sense, then congrats, you got extra points, and an interesting outcome.)
Aside from that, anything goes!
And please be sure to respond to this advertisement via post, carrier pigeon, teleporter, or your 'Igor.' Though ask them to follow the instructions to the mail box, or your Igor, or pigeon may not return. at least As they were anyway.
To further clarify:
1. Submit yourself / a character
2. Say which side you are helping, whether you are helping Desmond with science, or myself with magic.
3. And if you'd like, the other party to be present during the experiment.
4. Then explain what would occur as to what would be better, and if it backfires, who is affected.
-Extra points to those who give fun and original ideas, and are willing to help fund the project, however will not guarantee that you will win.
Prize: Shiro chronicles the entire thing via comic pages. (Or sequential.)

Technically (har har) to an extent, because "magitech" as opposed to the series is just technology, using and harnessing the elements, or, being so highly advanced to most folks, that they considered it 'magic.' (or usually because it's using magic crystals to power them.)
~hand you a stack of business and other things~ this is how you can reach me, the top one is my most frequent stop to place, the second, favorite place this side of a black hole to get coffee, the next one is located inside a black hole, bet place to buy gun, ships, you know it they have it. the rest are just legal items i have to hand out the just explain that since you have my where about near you, that you might be the target of interdimension time priates/criminals, although they probably won't be coming here, plus a list of great place to eat, and menus as well, as well as......well look at the time ~pulls out a wall of clocks out of a portal~ i must be going, good luck.

The merging of science and magic in blasphemous harmony. Can't we see that combining the two to make up for the shortfalls of the other has far greater potential than using either one on its own? Science is bound by rigid rules and laws, but permits us to see and understand far more than we could imagine. Magic is fueled by imagination. While imagination is what inherently bends and breaks the rules it is limited by one's inspiration. With more detail from the world as it is naturally, one can create all the more fantastic things in the world of dreams. Ultimately, magic is used to take action, science is used to know when.
I'm afraid that if that is what you believe, then you may believe it to be so. As 'magic' is a form of science, that required careful study. It's is the manipulation of the ethereal brought manifest.
Science having backing of the church? <_< since when?
And yes, the 'church' of insert religion / <deity of your choice here>, it has been known to persecute and destroy magic in all forms.
--00--
I would normally take what you said with a grain of salt, but from what I've been seeing of your comments and posts as of late, I have to take a second to comment on -yours- as it seems that you strongly believe in what you wish to believe, and I'm okay with that.
However, when you state it with such a ferocity in which you have no truly established ground, belief or not, you'll end up flat on your face. Any 'magic' is a highly advanced form of science. Dark ages, what were the herbalists and earlier 'with doctors' called, when they used bread mold and aloe to sooth and cure wounds, if they were not forced into religious conscription?
HERETICS! WITCHES! ALL MUST BE SLAIN IF YOU ARE IN THE WAY!
Do you deny such a fact?
Nonetheless, there is a reason why fantasy is considered fantasy, and why such 'strange things' are intriguing. I believe that there is magic in the world, whether it be as mundane as 'the magic of love,' as grandiose as the possibility of mythological creatures existing at some point in time, via the imagination or ACTUALLY existing, or even as nonsensical as 'wishing' and pure co-incidental chance it occurs.

But if both of the species' technologies seem like magic, then each species believes that they are using science and the other is using magic. But both are using science. Or magic. AAAAAHHHHH CONFUSION ! I like to think of science as understanding elements at a physical level (atomic interactions) and magic as a understanding elements at a spiritual level, but that's probably just me.
Probably. but the thing is, magic users tend to try and find things through -scientific- means, via technology, however limited it may be. However people who are scientific to begin with attempt to classify -how- magic works. Telekinesis? Space mending? Mind strength? Up in arms for the scientific community.
Magic users are then more open-minded! Which would probably help them to understand magic anyway. I really like your reasoning and your ideas about magic and technology. I'm going to try and find if you've uploaded writing, because I think I would enjoy it. Also, your artwork is incredible!
definitely magic
trust me i have had more experience with magic than you ever will i have experienced all of the animus-touched objects in my world and besides i AM a animus myself except i do not lose a little bit of my sanity every time i enchant something like other animus dragons.
