I saw a photo of a guy doing a blunt slide on a snowboard years ago in a magazine and thought that was one of the raddest things I've seen, so I had to do that for this pic.
I also dug the night shots that Transworld would set up, everything blacked except for the rider and target :]
I love fat gloves too :I

Yeah I use photo reference when I was learning how to paint the snow, seeing the different textures it has when piled up to make ramps, and what tracks look like when carved. And I took some pictures of myself wearing snow gear to ref the different creases since they are so random.
I figure out the lighting manually as shown in the progress image I linked in the description :]

Thanks for the offer! This was my first snowboarding pic I've done, and was something of huge interest to K, but had a ton of fun doing this one and learning a wee bit more about painting snow.
I have done a day and a half a few years ago, and would love to do more this year, just have to organise transport and lodging. I used to skate a ton, but due to work I mainly just use it for rolling into town now :]

I think FS ones are harder than BS ones (I do BS ones). To be honest, if you could do it on a skateboard, you could do it on a snowboard within a few tries (once you got the basic turning and everything else down). And your very much welcome :) I love seeing furry snowboard art, and this piece blew me away when I saw it. All your work is awesome keep it up!
Sweet tapdancing Christ this picture looks awesome. Now, I only really know about snowboarding through video games of dubious realism and events like the Winter Olympics, but I can still safely say this looks grand. And is all looks so realistic, from the clothing to the lighting to the snow. Just awesome. Good on ya, mate.

No this was all sketched up and painted from a pencil sketch. I have the process of this pic in my scraps that shows how I planned the lighting and got to the final result. I did look up photo reference of snow jumps to see the textures on the sides since it doesn't really snow here, plus I used to skate a bit so I had a strong idea what pose I wanted :U

EPIC WIN! <3 Snowboarding is THE BEST!! I saw this on Crazy's comp screen last night and didn't realise it was your's until I saw it today!! Weeooo!! And the world keeps getting smaller! As I was thinking the other day when I looked at your page that your art style was similar to one of our friends from sweden, strange fox... and then today crazy actually mentioned you guys draw together and such!!! <3 All the WIN!^_^
