Thought I'd share the inks for my new book I'm doing for senior project. I actually have all of the pages inked, and I'll prolly go ahead and upload them sporadically. They'll be scrapped as soon as I upload the color version! This features my fox entertainer, Kitty and my friend's croc hitman, Walter.
Some of the inking is fairly poor because I plan on painting over it in PS, but I just wanted an idea of what the shapes were that I was gonna be painting.
Kitty is mine
Walker is
Blaize's.

6 pages. I was/am a perfectionist, so it took me all summer that year to complete it. I truly hope to make more of these.

I hope not the ones that sort of gray out after a while?
A suggestion?
If you want the same deep black India ink you find in the traditional nib and pen, rapidograph pens are PHENOMENAL! And for your cheaper but yet still same quality, the rapidoliner pen. And theyre was this awesome pen I had linked on my FB page...it's there somewhere ._.
I can't wait to see your comic finished!

Oooh, I'll definitely have to try that out then! I've been faring pretty well with microns, I haven't seen them grey out yet? Maybe I will. I mean, I have a couple that the ink seems to be running out, but I kinda still like to use them anyway. But totally, I'll look into those pens! Occasionally I like to use the pens that you have to dip in india ink 'cos I have a crap ton of ink, but that can get a little tedious at times.
And thanks. :> I'll prolly be uploading the other pages in a bit.

Well it's not so much the pen running out of ink. Uhmmmm....ah! For instance let's sy you have a panel and you wish to do some awesome dramatic lighting. Only consisting of blacks to form the definition of the form, body, etc. so now you're finished and it looks great, but after a while you see that it has grayed out a little bit.
That's what I mean :P
I've run into that problem using micron pens. but yeah, it is the no.1 choice for inkers.
At my art school it was strongly prohibited to use microns. So we had to use the dip and ink, which, yes, got verrrrrry tedious. I haven't done any of that lately as I feel my nibs don't hold as much ink as I want them to. And I'm terrified of spilling the bottle onto the couch or elsewhere! And that is...not....ffffffun. Most of my other mini comics were done in that style of dip and inking.

Ahhh, I see what you mean then. :>
Oh? Yeah, I've run into the same problem with the dip and ink, but it's the only way to really get the detail you want in lithos. Dx And i was crazy enough to do a fairly detailed piece on a 24inx18in litho stone. But I've never had that restriction in my school! I find that so odd, but I think it definitely is a nice experience to use the dip and ink. Haha, I've totally spilled india ink everywhere on multiple occasions. Ruined a really nice shirt too.

Well, I didn't understand it at first but I felt it was because it was extremely easy to get used to and that anyone can use them. Well THAT AND I majored in cartooning. Yes! It's an actual major! But extremely rare. I went to school at School of Visual Arts in NYC. I guess we HAD to learn the tools of the trade. Brush pens are highly recommended. I guess we all have our primary and most favored pens, but it is nice to see what others are like. I don't use American made nibs though lol. I was more fond of Japanese imported ones or ones from Deleter.
I remember I spilled mine. Got on my pj pants, and the leather couch. It was a mess.... Lol
I'm certain I could learn from you on your general work and comic works!
Btw....do you digital color? If so what program?

Ooooh, I've never heard of a cartooning major, but that sounds like fun! Actually, I go to school quite close to NYC! I go for Printmaking though, though sometimes I wish I had gone to a different school for illustration. Yeah, I can totally understand learning the tools of the trade. Oh lord, I love brush pens... I have a couple that my dad had given me for my birthday a couple years back. I should definitely use them more hmm. i was wondering what brand of rapidograph pen you use/recommend? I took a look at dickblick and wasn't too sure.
Oh, I do color digitally. I use SAI and photoshop CS5, though I have yet to actually use both in one piece which might be interesting.

It was demanding, but really had a great time. -gasp- Another yorker city person?? cool!
Well in our school, illustration and cartooning are one major but you can choose that major depending on the classes one takes. I was taught by some awesome people.
Oh? Which ones do you have, cause ive been a bit...picky when it comes to brush pens. Even a literal watercolor brush.
Well the most popular ones are the Koh-I-Noor. expensive but well worth it. I happen to come across a sale of one. 6 (or 7?) pens with two refill cartridges (or somethin like that) for $52.XX
http://www.hyatts.com/art/rapidogra.....pen-set-L11115 (the one i bought! well from Pearl Art Store)
Rapidoliner pens are much less expensive but still great, you just hve to treat them with care and not to stab yourself with one.

i don't see the one i used...it must be there. nor did i remember it having a refill cartridge. Mine came in a package of one pen.

damn...i have CS2...i think i need to upgrade. I'm trying to play with the settings so i can have my own custom basic brush for good renderings without textures (at first). What settings do you have?
