Still working on this, I promise! Production has slowed a bit on account of FWA preps and Dexter, but they aren't entirely forgotten! I'll have this finished before the month is out if it kills me.
So yes, I decided to have Kari (Kittybird) be a turncoat. My imaginary mental background is that she got in trouble in the city for picking pockets and finally had to leave. She joined up with Usaden thinking they were just going to show the city's nobility that they weren't as high and mighty as they thought they were. She's never been a party to murder though and didn't want to start with an obviously innocent person. So she's grabbed the oracle and is getting out.
Thankfully she now seems to have some help. Paladin and Lunden are magic users and their plot to convince Kari to hand the oracle over and distract her just netted them a potential new ally.

Okay, now the question comes, are these really two party members, who WERE disguised,
or
Are these two minions disguising themselves as party members?
I suspect the former, since neither were seen in the battle.
But it seems odd that they would disguise themselves, instead of just attacking Kari. Good thing they did, because Kari would likely have died a quick death, needlessly.

They were really the party members. The plan was to convince Kari that they were with Usaden and get her to hand the oracle over without setting off any alarms. If their plan worked Kari would have handed her over, run back to the battle, and if asked would have said she turned the Oracle over to some mooks for safekeeping and all was well.
Of course, no plan survives completely unscathed. Just in this case it (might have) turned out even better.
