i hate canvas (personally) i seem to do a really crappy job on it

Well, in my experience getting nice smooth lines with paint (such as what you did to outline the character with) is really difficult, especially on canvas due to the texture X'D The more painterly strokes themselves are a nice echo of the bg :D If you don't mind some artist critique, possibly adding some touches of yellow near the white highlights in the fur and glazes of purple where the shadows would be, may help adding some more unity to the piece as well :)

I'm really excited to see more traditional work from you, it's always refreshing to see more breadth of media from artists!
