You asked for it, you got it, toyota!
Basically, I started with a plan. I had an idea that I really wanted to do a glowy piece... but I didn't know what I wanted it to look like, or what I wanted to glow. I didn't want to do glowsticks, because they are just so common, and I wanted to do something different. I had a couple other ideas - one I liked was a glowing yo-yo, and a girl doing tricks with the glowing yo-yo, like maybe walk the dog. Noriko said that today's culture probably can't relate to yo-yo's, though, so I set that idea aside. My other main idea was a character whose markings glow. I've seen this done before, but I'd never done it before and I wanted to give it a try.
I sketched up a couple ideas, scrapped the first couple in frustration, took some time to myself in a dark room fuming, and then came back and sketched this. I like back views on spotted cats, because the patterning is usually the prettiest there. I also wanted to do something nude but not showing anything sexual.
So I took a 9"x12" piece of bristol board, drew an 8"x10" rectangle in it for my painting surface (I'm matting it with an 8"x10" opening for the art show) sketched this up, and then inked it.
