My first colored pic completed in 2012.
I say "vector style" because the only vectors involved in this pic were the raw lineart, which I traced over the original pencils using Inkscape (I actually have an old academic version of Flash 4, but never got around to installing it). The pencil version of this one was a fairly normal bust shot that I then drew in the extra-heavy lineart. After tracing it I placed it in my trusty old Micrografx image editor, flood-filled the lineart to produce a very heavily lined B/W piece, which I then colored with a combination of flood fills and painting over magic-wanded lineart. A selection of colors from a sunset photo was added into the backdrop as an afterthought--the usual daylight blue-sky gradient seemed old hat.
A certain visual element wasn't an afterthought though. After the posting of "Plot Derailment" last year I mentioned that I would attempt to draw the characters associated with that pic. Well, it took this long to actually try, taking the form of a decorative silhouette pin. I'm considering doing vector-styled pics for a few more of my characters, the addition of certain "decorative elements" determined by certain personality traits held in common.
Some stuff I listened to while coloring this:
Toyz Noise remix by 'Pogo'
Bangarang by Skrillex
