Rosalie and Raleigh are their storybook names, and with that opening statement that's where shit gets complicated.
These two are fan characters for Once Upon a Time, an ABC tv show. The fairytale I based them off of is "The Golden Stag", in which a brother (Raleigh) drinks from the water pooled in a stag's hoofprint, and turns into a brilliantly golden stag himself as a young child when he and his sister (Rosalie) are discarded in the woods by their father.
In the Kingdom's northern forests, Rosalie and Raleigh lived in relative peace, minding themselves as Rosalie became a master herbalist, and many came to her for natural remedies both mundane and magical. Raleigh would greet them, his capability of speech unhindered (he WAS magically changed you know, though the siblings still don't know why or by whom, but the voice doesn't move with his mouth, it's almost like a disembodied voice that you inherently know is 'his'). Quite a few less than scrupulus people tried to hunt Raleigh for his golden coat and ivory horns, including a neighboring Prince. Upon being discovered and stopped by Rosalie while hunting her brother, he fell instantly smitten with her.
This Prince had a bounty that whomever could bring Rosalie to him would be handsomely rewarded, and many tried, many failed. Eventually, an old woman coaxed Rosalie out of their woodland home while Raleigh was away forraging for the two of them. Stolen, he tracked her down until she was found, quite unhappily mind you, in the Prince's domain. The King of the region saw the deer, and realized his son had abducted the medicine woman against her will, making it taboo to hunt the sacred Golden Stag in his lands. Rosalie left the Prince quite heartbroken, vowing not to trust the wiles of a man she had just met and had forcefully tried to marry and deflower her.
It was then that they met a young lady named Belle. Moving from their old home, for Rosalie simply did not feel safe with the Prince coming to meet her every day, their journey took them to a forest near a very particular Darke Creature's castle. They would occasionally see a young lady peer at them through the windows of the castle, and they were content to stay on the outskirts of the property, until the master of the castle came to them.
"Lets make a deal" he proposed, uttering neither his name nor how he came to realize they were there. And so a temporary repreive was given to Raleigh, for as long as he stayed on the castle grounds he would remain in human form. The siblings were overjoyed, and served their new master Rumpelstiltskin in contentment, alongside the girl whom had alerted him their presence in the first place, Belle. Over time, Rosalie found herself inherently drawn to the 'monster' all the kingdoms knew, but whom she knew simply as Master Kin. She said nothing, as the siblings friendship with Belle had grown over the months, both had realized that Belle felt quite the same way about Rumpelstiltskin as Rosalie did, and that the Master seemed to return those affections though he tried to deny it.
But their quiet contentment was not to last. As Belle was allowed to leave to collect straw for the Master to spin, a chore usually entrusted to Rosalie, she encountered the Queen. Her Majesty convinced Belle that True Love's Kiss would turn Rumpelstiltskin back into a mortal man, so they could be together, and she returned to the estate. It caused a falling out between the Master and Belle, as Belle did not understand the implications of their Master being powerless, while he was simply too cowardly to admit he loved her and could be loved in return.
The months passed as Belle was gone from the castle as the Master grew more and more dark each day after the Queen's visit to inquire about a mermaid and report Belle's unfortunate 'death', Raleigh growing ever more resentful that his sister did nothing to take Belle's place at the Master's side no matter how she wished to, and growing restless knowing that he was technically prisoner here. His loyalty divided between himself and his master, he chose to live the life of a man for good, tired of paying penance for one mistake made as an innocent child, undeserving of such a horrid curse. Galloping to the evil Queen, he begged her to use the magic at her disposal to keep him in his human form, and she granted him a stag-shaped bauble that he MUST keep on his person at all times to remain human. Tying it in his hair, and regaining his human form AWAY from the Master's castle, he pledged his eternal loyalty to the Queen for her gift.
As such, she used Raleigh to help disarm Rumpelstiltskin and betray his and Rosalie's trust, damning his Master to the Queen's dungeon, where Rumpelstiltskin gave her the spell to cast them all into the 'other' world, the newly formed town of Storybrooke.
IN STORYBROOKE
The siblings are still together, and 'Bailey Lockhart' is still drawn to the mysterious Mr.Gold in town, often offering him tea and company at hers and her brother's cosy little herbal tea and holistic remedies shop "The Hart & Hind". 'Buckley Lockhart' , her elder brother, helps around the shop and twon as a handiman and occasionally does oddjobs for Regina(the Mayor) at her request. Neither of them know about Belle's imprisonment by the Queen/Mayor, or even know she's alive, they also do not retain their memories of their 'other' life.
They live quietly, and oftentimes entertain Henry's 'wild ideas' about everyone being from a storybook he has at home. Buckley even goes as far as teasing Henry that if he ever took his stag-shaped hairtie out, he'd change into a rampaging stag himself and wreck the store, surely. Henry always cautions him against it, and the siblings have a friendly laugh with the young boy whose wicked mother occasionally orders specialty tea.
They meet Emma Swan at Granny's Diner, where Ruby introduces them to the depute sheriff. They haven't had much interaction with her, and only interact with Henry jokingly when dropping an order off at his mother Regina's house, or when they come into the store. The only other Main Cast character they interact with on a regular/frequent basis is Mr.Gold, whom always makes Buckley feel 'uncomfortable, like the man constantly resents me for somethin' in his own words. Bailey/Rosalie, likewise, ignores her brothers apprehension and instead welcomes Mr.Gold into their lives as a regular customer and friend she speaks to often, to which her brother and Ruby constantly tease her about being 'smitten' with the loanshark.
