Entry to
darkboss's '07 mech-off. Since sparkly, dainty coloring jobs aren't my forte, i thought that instead i'd stretch my concept skills as far as time allowed me to. So, this is what i ended up -- a powersuit that hides as a large baggage case. The end result is somewhat surprising even to myself, since i'm rather rusty with my mecha skills.
I hope you folks can discern the lines. This is also the first picture i've done in ages where i had to spend up my adrenaline to draw at incredibly high speeds because of time constraints. If you have any other questions regarding the concept itself, speak and i will try and come up with an answer. For instance, yes, you can remove the suit's "helmet" area by pushing a set of buttons on the neck. :)

Very interesting design in the sense of a utilitarian system that can be packed up and carted around like that.
Is it more for urban environments, or was it designed as a low level assault sorta dealie? I'm assuming that when the big fights start, it tends to stay out of the way.

The main keyword that's on my mind when i created this concept is "versatility", probably also "adaptation". The default package when purchased is more comparable to an unarmed, naked person. So with the proper attachments it can take on roles such as:
- Athlete -- high-power engines to various parts of the body, minimal armor, a robust booster set, strong stabilizers, and tough "toes".
- Construction worker -- high-power engines, strong stabilizers, pneumatic toes (i don't know what you call those toes that construction machines use to stay still), preferably medium armor to meet armor laws, "gloves" to amplify the arm's strength, and some large construction tools to especially fit the suit's fingers.
- Law Enforcement Officer -- Medium armor, light weaponry (standard-issue cop stuff), standard toes, high-power limb engines to match the strength of police cruisers, and high-power booster set with aerodynamic accessories to help take advantage of terrain over a short radius.
--
With each kilogram the suit takes, the more power the engine system and stabilizer systems need to have. Therefore, i would say that combatively, the suit can help the user shoot down infantry-class units reliably, maybe even shoot down a few light vehicles and a small handful of medium and heavy units. To pit it against a horde of heavy units would likely equate to Dante Must Die in Devil May Cry 3, thrice that if the units have backup from even heavier units.
I hope the tl;dr entertained you. :)

Yes, it certainly did!
And the concept of a 'modular' system like that is pretty sensible. I just wasn't sure what its power output was, since I did not know if you were contemplating some sorta mysterious super-plant for it or something.
"Whatta ya mean it's got an anti-matter battery? Ok, everyone outta the room."
Construction machine 'toes' are pretty much lumped under the generic term 'stabilizers' I believe.

Artifacts like that are possible. If scientists can shrink 1 gigabyte of memory to an M2 memory card that's the size of a fingernail, then by the time of the suit's release, "super-plants" may either be straight on the scientist's drawing board after it's on sale, is in progress, has a few prototype models, or has already been refined enough for it to be standard fare.
I'm inclined to have faith in them more ever since they also made a cellphone that's in the form of a large watch, and you input the numbers in a screen requiring a small stylus lodged in the watch's strap. That watch is also for real, i've seen it in action on TV a few months ago.
God i love science. :D

Woooooow !!!!! 0.o Just saw your submission, it's AWESOME !!!!!!!! Pretty much the kind of design that was initiated by Shirow, but developped in recent manga and anime such like Ryvius for one of the firsts, King Gainer... Superb, that's the kind of design I'm not capable of...
Also, LOL your little illos here and there ^^ ^^
