Your style of most of these things have a sort of eternal quality about them. What I mean is that generally, you end up talking about interesting things about unchanging parts of human nature. That's one of the things I love the most about these little clips you put up!
And the way you talk, at least to me, has a very... achronistic bent to it. When you read the Raven, I can imagine it being read by someone who's first reading something new instead of something coming from far in the past that's been repeated in countless schools. So, it's always a little weird whenever I hear any modern references. It's like suddenly hearing someone in a Shakespeare play start talking about iPods.
That said... very, very interesting (and sad) insight. Heh, I guess I never say much insightful myself in these comments, but I always feel like I should at least say something, no matter how meaningless, since I enjoy them so much.
Keep it up, and thanks for sharing these. I love 'em!

Mnay thanks for the compliments :D
I must say, I always do enjoy reading your comments. They're always interesting, articulate and well thought out. :)
I Reeeeeally need to record a new version of "The Raven" every time I hear that old one I I feel I could do so much better. But one thing I really hate about poetry in schools is the way the school crushes the life out of a poem. teachers focus too much on the technical aspects of a poem and in that they miss the whole point! If a poem does not make you feel anything then it fails.
Any reading of something as emotionally charged as a poem is going to be soulless if the reader doesn't feel and understand the feelings behind it. The Raven is a tale, told first hand, of a man's decent into hysterical despair through grief and the anguish of lost love. If I hadn't seen it done I would think it impossible for anyone to read that without a turmoil of emotions. That's also why I feel I could read the poem a lot better now,.. I really wasn't in the right mindset when I read it last and I feel i've come to a better understanding of the character and the poem as a whole since then. One of these days I WILL get round to re-recording it.

Thanks as well :). I greatly look forward to the rerecording!
I remember far too well too many otherwise wonderful poems where I ended up spending my time counting syllables and figuring out which lines rhymed with which lines... which is a little like seeing the Mona Lisa and doing an analysis on the frame that was used.
The Raven was one of the poems that stuck out despite this, which is one of the reasons I love it so much! I don't think I have quite as much understanding of the emotion and motives behind it as you do, I'm afraid. I think I shall have to reread it sometime soon...
Of course, my biggest problem now is since seeing the Simpsons episode featuring the poem, every time I read it, in my mind's eye, I now have a yellow overweight guy looking at a picture of his wife, which requires many other pictures just for the hair, being haunted by a raven with Bart's face. No matter how beautifully written and emotionally charged the poem... it's somehow just not the same that way :P.
