i figure that he can probably sense to a small degree the chemical composition of most things, if they're familiar enough. toxicity jumps out because its chemicals must feel differently when they get absorbed. like a tingling sensation or a burn or something. so, he could probably identify a cherry pie as having sugar compounds and different types of flora (for the cherries and flour) but has no idea how it tastes.
