On Home Maintenence (#26)
Spring forest air wafts in my nose. Deep sniff
Tells all about it, fresh life wakes from snow.
But real wolves don’t own homes, warm den enough
To keep mate and cubs safe from storms that blow.
About storms: dens don’t have roofs. But ours does.
Old shingles can’t resist the winter’s blast.
She repaints spots while I fix. Claws on toes
Work well as I hammer to hold me fast.
And would wolves ever know this kind of view?
We built here for this, seen from risky height.
The woods so rich and green. She will eschew
The scene. Bunnies don’t climb. Suppose she’s right.
I look down. They don’t do paint either. Fur
