doing these quick sketchy ask things for fun lately!
more of them at my adm tumbls and more to come
also got a lot of pervy questions, i'll probably post those on my site once Ithimar gets to answering them, but most of the responses will end up on tumblr

yeah needed an excuse for why everyone's queer and why it's normal
so the ladies are basically worshiped and live in these fertility temples, everyone's that's not a noble is born there. the women choose rich, powerful, or wise men to have children with, so it's like a super honour to get chosen even though they just fuck you for a few weeks and then basically chuck you out. no man ever meets his children, except nobles.
childbirth is hard and women are rare, girls stay at temple the after birth, the boys are dropped off or sold or become eunuchs to work at the temple or for a noble lady.
it's different for noble lines, they have their own cliques of women and they basically have all the power of lineage since they choose who they'll marry.
noble and temple born male beastmen pair off in partnerships. monogamy in marriage or partnership depends on county and family traditions. like, county Timon is more trad, nobles have one wife and one partner, and temple borns have one partner. county Efraim has no traditional limit to marriages or partners.
and the whole reason behind difficulty in procreation is because the creation of the beastmen was a sort of accidental abomination, because of this thing that happened in the other world with the loam and this entity called the ebonmierstahl.
i had a whole subplot where Lael had once been chosen and married, through a lot of maneuvering, to a woman from a duke family, which is like the lowest form of noble family, and then she came back and found Lael and caused a bunch of trouble for the fools, but i took it out because it was basically the weakest story arc i had planned.
so yeah this is a really fucking nerdy excuse, which are my favourite kind! hopefully i can explain it more elegantly in the comic, but i think more of it will be explained in the sequel i'm planning

I always feel in need of explanations like these too. Whenever the story should involve more than just one gay couple, I feel inclined to reason with structures of society around reproduction, classes and all that. It just feels so much more realistic and believable than... sure, they're all furries and yeah, of course they're all gay, the end XD
plus I really like to explore the gay theme in categories like 'normal' and 'common' at either end
having a 'partner' there feels very right to me :3

yes! world building is fantastic!! i've tried to make an interesting world with this comic, one that i like, feels real, and will also be appealing to gay folk and furries.
though it's almost 200 pages in and i'm just now starting to introduce world building in the actual comic, i've got loads and loads of notes and 3000 years of history for this world, including politics and counties and all sorts of nerdy stuff like that :0 a very self indulgent project!!

hahah he doesn't give a crap! bears aren't as smart as the other races. some of them live in cities and are more educated, and there are bear nobles and noble lines, but most of them live in tribes in the forests. they're not too interested in eloquent or subtle speech, heh!
yeah, a bit orcish! not all of them are big and strong, but most are. they are not inherently good at magic, like cats or dogs. they are more jovial than orcs, their tribes are more hunters and fishermen than warriors. the pandas, like Simon, are a subset of bear species that came from Gath and are a bit different than mainland bears. more like cats, tricky, smart, better at magic.
